Hallo zusammen, wie der Titel schon sagt, ich besuche Malta und in den Salzpfannen sehe ich in einigen Pfannen zusätzliche versunkene Abschnitte. Das ist mir in den Pfannen auf Malta und Gozo aufgefallen. Wofür wurden diese seinerzeit verwendet? Danke

Probably a low point to be able to remove all the water when emptying the pan
Its incredibly difficult to evaporate all the water out of hyper saline solution (salt-saturated water), so the sump pit helps collect the last bit of salt-saturated water, while allowing the majority of the pan to dry, leaving a layer of harvest-able salt.
