    1. Curious as to why they have the Irish flags? It’s this so people don’t think they’re French with Irish numberplates?

    2. PalladianPorches on

      ffs… oil prices down 15%

going by the (seriously rte, at least ask them where they made these up) numbers these protesters mentioned yesterday, that’s a 200% reduction in their costs.

      time to go home

    3. For the lorry drivers I get it, the diesel costs are killing your livelihood and you want something done.

For farmers to say they are being „taxed to extinction“ feels absurd when they are propped up by subsidies generated by taxes, without which their jobs would cease to exist.

    4. Fair play to them, they got the people off the busses and Luas and forced them to walk. Great stuff, I’m sure Trump will roll over any minute and stop this farcical war

    5. Reddit hates to see people actually getting off their arses and protesting : downvoted my point proven 🤣

    6. SirGreengrave on

Hilarious that I 99% of the time walk to Grand Canal (work) and today I decided to use the car (my partner gave me a lift, actually). Worst decision ever 😂

    7. Incredibly weird comments here from people who obviously are not affected by the prices.

Protests like this should be supported even if what is being protested doesn’t affect you

    8. MetrologyGuy on

Might be ignorant, but do tractors not use green diesel that’s far cheaper anyway?

Can someone who knows more than I do please explain to me how stopping the ordinary Joe Soap from going to his underpaid 9-5 is going to fix the (global) gas crisis?

    10. julia__a__gata on

We are ‚taxed to extinction‘, meanwhile the richest are getting richer.

Next time farmers are crying outside supermarkets looking for more money lets remind them of the mornings taken off work like today wasting everyday peoples time. Clowns

    12. isn’t the government on holidays?
Have they even reacted to yesterdays protest?

    13. BenderRodriguez14 on

A lot of folks seem to be getting fairly angry about this. I wonder if they’ll annoy people to the point of seeing a lot of lorries, tractors, etc with damage to them and deflated tires in the coming days?

    14. Such_Technician_501 on

I saw a clip of one of these clowns saying they’d stop when the government offered to talk to them. Talk to who? The hauliers‘ association and farmers‘ associations claim they don’t know who’s organising the protests ffs.

    15. John : „When are the Irish people ever going to get off their arses and start pushing government to act on their behalf and for the greater good of the people they represent?“

Paul : „They’re already at it.. they’re protesting about the oil crisis in Dublin today.“

John: „Fucking typical. The one day I decided to drive to the city centre, it’s over run by right-wing farmers“

    16. Bill_Badbody on

Why havent the gardai and the bus companies spent the last 24 hours getting the buses out of there and onto alternative routes ?

    17. DBrennan13459 on

Something I’m just wondering- who the fuck are looking after the farms while this bunch are all up in Dublin?

    18. significantrisk on

Irish people: things are shit, the French wouldn’t stand for this, we should be more like the French.

Also Irish people: NO NOT LIKE THAT

    19. ZealousidealClock969 on

Im so confused by the reaction to this….protests are supposed to be disruptive? Thats part of the concept? Like when pilots or nurses go on strike. At least theyre doing something. Fair play

    20. I was waiting at a Luas stop this morning (past sandyford), Luas said due for a good 15 mins and I could see it stopped at the previous stop further down the road. My partner was ahead of me stuck at the a different stop for a good 15 mins and a colleague told me they’d been waiting half an hour for a Luas further up the track. My stop was also getting more and more overcrowded so it would’ve been very overcrowded on the luas and I’m very pregnant at the moment as well so public transport at normal rush hour is a challenge.

Gave up and went back home (I have a job where WFH is possible), partner had to wait it out as WFH isn’t an option for them but was very late into work. I’m on standby to collect them if there’s problems later (likey they’d have to get a bus out of town and I’d collect them from somewhere!) Have to also be around to collect a child from creche and didn’t want to risk getting stuck in town so going in just wasn’t worth it. I’m expecting getting some possible shit from work as they’re cracking down on WFH on allocated office days but honestly what else was I supposed to do?

Honestly they’d be better off protesting outside the American embassy, that’s where their anger needs to be directed!

    21. Trans-Europe_Express on

So would a housing protest or student fees protest be allows to sit on O’Connell Street for this long?

    22. There was an ambulance trapped by buses with the sirens on this morning while I was going into work. While I support the protests I thought that was ridiculous

    23. People paid to destroy the environment and torture animals complaining about taxes.

    24. Farmers are such welfare bunnies, every single farmer gets handouts, basic dole merchants

    25. Intelligent-Aside214 on

Farmers who only exist because the people they are blocking going to work subsidise them complaining about fuel tax that they are exempt from.

      Ok.

    26. leviathan898 on

The irony of the slogan „taxed to extinction“ when protesting for fossil fuels 😂

    27. Can anyone tell me or know where I can look to see if this is on tomorrow also? Organising conference at work so all travel is impacted and listening to the news nothing and nothing from Dail conference…

    28. greyedoutdoors on

I have some sympathy but I get the feeling plenty of these lads would be saying ‘we need our own Trump’ while somehow being oblivious to the fact he’s the reason this is happening in the first place.

    29. Intelligent-Aside214 on

The gardai should be out ensuring all these tractors aren’t using green diesel. This is not farm work.

    30. If the government spends a significant amount of money subsidizing around a price spike, what’s going to happen is the government will lose a significant amount of wealth to temporarily remove the pain of the supply shock.

That’s money we no longer have to invest in infrastructure which could protect us from the next supply shock. I would strongly prefer to see the government lean on companies to allow remote work where possible, and reserve fuel for critical uses where required.

At the same time, they need to look into accelerating oil alternatives in transport, whether that’s buses, trains, cycle infrastructure, or all of the above, so the next time there’s another shock like this, the country isn’t as vulnerable.

    31. I’d love to know what they tried before resorting to fully fledged protest.

    32. Express-Pay2740 on

The farming industry is always important and should be supported, but Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael get the majority of their support from rural areas so pissing the Dubs won’t make a blind bit of difference. And I know that’s not the goal of the protest, but that’s what’s happening. Also please do your due diligence when joining a protest like this and see who is really behind it. I couldn’t help but notice all of the tricolours and it kinda gave me the ick, sorry. 🥲

    33. LittleAoibh11 on

Shocking lack of ethics and respect for fellow Irish citizens. Fine if people were just delayed going about their business – but there are sick people missing hospital appointments. Not on. They should be protesting outside the American Embassy and Doonbeg.

      F*ck America.
