>Starting on Friday, Lotto Max tickets **will cost $6 instead of $5**, but there will now be four lines of numbers people can win on instead of three. In addition, people will choose their seven numbers from one to 52 instead of 50.
The numbers and cost are not the only things changing, though — the cap on the jackpot is, too, with it being increased to $90 million from the current $80 million.
Those hoping for a better chance at the jackpot may be disappointed, as the odds of winning per play are one in 33.4 million, up from the previous one in 33.3 million.

>People aiming for a lower amount, though, may be in luck. For example, someone who gets five out of seven numbers matched now has a one in 1,684 chance of winning compared to the previous one in 1,841. In last Friday’s draw under the previous odds, 3,579 people won $110.
So they are increasing the price while the odds of winning the jackpot is worse. Also, nobody who buys a lottomax is buying it hoping to win 100 bucks…

Maybe I’m in the minority but I’d prefer my loto winnings to have a higher likelihood with the downside of „only“ being life-changing amounts instead of absurdly high jackpots.
80 Canadians winning 1m$ sounds better than one winning 80m$.

I just disagree with increasing the jackpot again, no one needs 90 million dollars.
If they actually wanted to do something good they would make smaller jackpots and set it up so more people can win life changing money. Cap it at $40 million jackpot (maybe even less) so it’s still an insane amount of money, several more smaller prizes in the range of $100k, then add way more Max millions if the jackpot carries over each week.

Why can’t we have a number picked from the tickets sold? Higher odds and more money given back to the players?

How much profit do they make? Where does this profit go? Cut executive bonuses and give more and smaller prizes.
Kick a little back to the public.

Instead of a lotto why not turn it into a housing program where everyone who wants in buys into the weekly fund and they will buy $XXm worth of homes and hand them out to people who are unable to afford a home, each week they rotate the city and have a committee choose the recipients based on factors such as income and current quality of life and How long you have contributed to the program. If you have been selected then you would be ineligible to be selected again unless you resubmit am application explaining why you are eligible again (maybe your house burned down or something).

The house always wins. These announcements are just sales tactics. „Oh, now it’s worth playing!“ „Hang in there, your odds just got better!“

Controversial take, but as the son of a gambler, tax winnings over a certain threshold.
This may also help with money laundering at the casinos and at best help identify, at worst get a piece of the pie.

The notion that they can run months on end without a “big” winner is ridiculous..

Didn’t think it was rigged until they mentioned this change a while ago, and the current jackpot will happen to be above 80M on the day the rules are set to change.

adding two additional numbers decreases the odds of winning from ~99 million to ~133m

the additional draw and the increase max is basically putting an underlying on „stupid people tax“

So costs more to play with worst odds.
Both the lotto Max and 6/49 lottery system in Canada are a scam.
If you doubt this, despite being asked hundreds of times over the years why the draw itself is **NOT actually televised live**, and as a result can be easily manipulated and that 99.9% of all large winners are anonymous, the corporation refuses to answer. We the public that the corporations supposedly works for, don’t actually know who wins the big money prizes.

I always wonder if the quick pick numbers that are issued, are kept in mind when they pick the winning numbers. I just never had a good feeling about it after I wasn’t able to see the physical balls coming out of the machine randomly. I don’t know how they do it now, but I doubt they’re still using that same old method.
Does anyone know?
