I hope its okay to share this (a similar post was made 10 days ago). At the time of this article, 142 000 Canadians completed survey which closes April 20th. Search „Transport Canada headlight survey“ to complete.

Honestly as a ram 3500 owner im so annoyed at people complaining about led headlights. Get a real car or get a bicycle i dont care, but stop flashing me these are not high beams

    3. I don’t like headlights in my mirrors for miles and miles on dark highways

I have always had this invention idea but I’m going to give it out for free to any car or tech company, especially now with cameras on cars- develop an auto darkening windshield that has sections in a grid like pattern, that you can’t see normally but at night a camera can triangulate where, from the drivers exact perspective, the oncoming lights are and darken only that area and follow the oncoming cars lights until they are out of sight of the driver. it shouldn’t affect any other visibility, and would have safety features to prevent accidental auto darkening if there was a bright flash or something, daytime etc.

It’s not bright headlights. it’s people that don’t know how to adjust their headlights or just drive with the highbeams on and don’t care. and automatic headlights just make the problem worse by teaching people they don’t have to turn off their highbeams. I firmly believe the more automation there is on a car the less attention people pay to what they’re actually doing.

    6. > For the time being, Schropp said both drivers and pedestrians should avoid looking directly at car headlights, instead trying to look just to the side of the lights and still ensuring they follow the lines on the road or path of the sidewalk.

That’s the thing, oncoming headlights cannot be lighting any part of the eye, irrespective of angle or else you can’t see anything across 4 lanes ahead of you unless the street lights are also high intensity bulbs. Almost none of our streets seem to have adequate lighting to work in tandem with modern headlights. I completely stopped driving at night because of this.

    7. I just don’t understand how these LEDs were approved for road use in the first place, its just the excessiveness that characterizes everything about humanity today. If you require that much light at night, you either are physically incapable and should not be allowed on the roads at all, or you are driving too fast for the visibility.

    8. Easily the worst part of my job is driving patients between cities at night. Its all down to the ridiculous bright blue lights and useless pavement princess trucks.

Glad to see a survey and hopeful for any kind of change to this.

I loathe LED headlights and frankly it’s not only the brightness that’s an issue. Sometimes LEDs will flicker and they trigger migraines for a friend of mine. I wonder how those flickering LEDs affect folks with epilepsy.

How about instead of complaining, just go out and get a $60,000 Dodge Ram 1500 so that you can be up higher, duh.

Almost got in an accident on Saturday when raining. Car 3 cars behind me had the brightest led lights and literally blinded my rear mirror for several seconds.

I can’t believe that these are legal. They are waiting for deaths to justify any legislation

    12. Isnt that illegal? I get it people have automatic lights, but so do i, i just turn off my far lights as soon as i see them on. Isn’t that a common sense for people? Or you can’t manually turn them off in some cars?

Classic bureaucracy – waiting like a decade to conduct a survey and form a committee about a problem that is immediately obvious by going outside.

    14. While they are necessary in rural areas and on highways at night but my gawd there’s no fucking need to be putting those LED headlights on full blast in towns blinding me and anyone out and about at night

Probably an unpopular opinion. But I would say distracted driving and transports blocking the fast lane for km’s on end cause way more accidents than bright lights. The 2 lane sections of the 401 are ridiculous with transports cutting off cars to go 0.5 km/h faster than the truck ahead of them 🤦‍♂️ If they cracked down on this it would probably eliminate most of the blinding issues people have from tailgating. Also, if you’re going slow and people are on your butt..MOVE TO THE RIGHT!

    16. I don’t understand how this is even a discussion topic, is there anyone that enjoys being blinded by poorly aimed LED headlights to the point you can’t see properly for minutes after sometimes? I don’t get it..
