Kaliningrad probably declares independence and Russia will send peacekeeper troop

  2. I can’t stop seeing the normal border :c Somehow the shapes are so ingrained in my mind I have difficulties wrapping my head around this

  3. Selling the Kaliningrad oblast was I think proposed to Lithuania just after the fall of the Soviet Union. Lithuania declined as it would mean Russians would account for 1/3 of their population. And the population would be dominated by military personnel and concentrated and not spread out

This was proposed during the Soviet Union. But the previous rulers favored Russians over other Union members and so removed the entire population; replaced with Russians.

Lithuania might start to resemble Kazakhstan where Russians are so numerous that the Kazakhs become minorities in their own country until the fall of the Soviet Union.

The abysmal economic situation in Central Asia lead many Russians to become Russian citizens. But Eastern Europe has different economic realities. It is possible that a sizable Russian minority would persist and advocate the interests of the Russian Government over their interests and the Lithuanian Government.

Estonia and Latvia might join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. But Lithuania will be caught in a deadlock like civil war-plagued Moldova and the Belarusian border will be a potential springboard for Russian intervention.

  5. Honestly adding it to Poland would’ve made more sense as the Russian population would account for a smaller percentage of the overall population of a country and wouldn’t change the political landscape as much

A division of the territory 80-20 between Poland and Lithuania would be even safer for these countries, as it would evenly distribute Russian population in the same proportion between them, further reducing the Russian influence.
