This is going to be the thing that pushes it from historically bad to catastrophic. Iran has threatened to retaliate against oil and civilian infrastructure including desalination. Oil is bad for the world, but desal is going to create a humanitarian crisis that’s maybe as bad as we have ever seen. There are millions of people across multiple regions of multiple countries that won’t have access to water. No where to evacuate to and no way to consistently airlift it in while the war continues.

A nuke would be a kinder option. I’m not advocating for it, but that’s what’s on the line here.

    2. lastpassonright on

So clearly no one cares about the repercussions of this on the planet.

    3. Royal-Hunter3892 on

For Iran it will be equivalent of an economic nuke. If this happens Iran will eventually become a failed state without oil money .

    4. IceMysterious3056 on

Bet Iran is also prepared to retaliate…anyway, we feel safe at home judging what’s happening over there.

    5. Several-Opposite-746 on

So the U.S. lifts sanctions on Iran and will also attack Iran’s energy sites. Meanwhile, the U.S. is coercing Ukraine from targeting Russia’s energy infrastructure. Who’s running this show?

    6. Is ra el preparing to commit war crimes, awaits PDF approval, official says.

    7. asdhjasdhlkjashdhgf on

How to say you are ready to escalate without saying escalation is what you expect anyway. It is messaging to enforce or repeat an ultimatum. Surprising, not really.

    8. GreyMatter22 on

This would be an absolute disaster for the entire region.

It is like ending Iran, and alongside causing damage to rest of GCC nations’s energy sites which will take 3-5 years for all of them to repair.

As Iran and GCC gets taken out, or are severely limited on their output, it means extremeley high prices on the cost of goods, an immidiate inflationary spike for the rest of the world, a rather large GDP contraction, higher unemployment numbers, and all that fun stuff.

Now on the Iranian side, they become a failed state, which means high illegal migration waves to Europe (Iran is 4x the Syrian population, so we can all imagine), higher illitracy rates which leads to long-term extremisim.

I am sorry to be putting out alarmist comments, but this is a whacky move to put it lightly.

Israel needs regime change more than any of these other countries. Israel is the destabilization in the middle east. There will never be “peace in the middle east” unless their terrorist leader is removed. Israel and the US are the biggest sponsors of state led terror in the world.

    10. Intoxicating_Piss_69 on

Anybody here want to explain how this isn’t a warcrime?

I know we all hate Iran, but warcrimes are still warcrimes are they not?

    11. Broken_Reality on

Israel waiting? They certainly aren’t waiting for a US greenlight. Israel doesn’t care. If they want to bomb something or someones they will.

Damn I hate the world right now. Actually the past few decades have sucked ass.

Israel making it really difficult for people to defend against conspiracy theories when they seemingly just treat them like a playbook

    13. Loud_Tank_5074 on

Well they are experts in bombing civilians and civilian infrastructure.

    14. I have no love for most middle eastern countries but fuck Israël and the US if they go trough with this.

Iran will retaliate with this attack to energy and water sites around the region because they have nothing to lose.

    15. Few-Ad-6322 on

Straight up war crimes but who cares anymore? The world is just a free for all now.

    16. richardathome on

Welp, say goodbye to your critical desalination infrastructure Israel >.<

    17. GingerSnapSurprise on

Of course they are – Iran has been the most significant, perceived or real, threat to Israel for decades. And for a person like Bibi, the weakness of this US administration is better than he could have hoped for. Not only is the US supplying Bibi with arms/funds to continue his own war of distraction, but the US is volunteering to do much of the work themselves.

    18. funkingrizzly on

All this war crime talk, who is going to hold them accountable? Just going to keep doing whatever they want.

    19. spectral_visitor on

Global consequences. Want 200+$ a barrel and 6$ at the pump? This is how that happens.

    20. vossmanspal on

And after that, Iran or their proxies would still hold the straits to ransom.

    21. travellingtriffid on

Christ, I respect Russia more than the US these days, and that’s from a HM Forces veteran. At least Russia doesn’t hide behind a facade of respectability.

      Fuck the United States.

    22. _Debauchery on

Such strikes would be unequivocally war crimes. Everyone up and down the chain of command needs to be prosecuted for this if it goes down (unfortunately likely). And they must be prosecuted harshly. The reason for this is the strikes with disable hospitals, water treatment facilities, electric stoves, and many other facilities and equipment used to sustain life.

    23. AntifascistAlly on

Thinking about the attacks which have already taken place and their consequences quickly builds a strong case for why previous presidents were wise to avoid this reckless adventure.

    24. Jfc Netanyahu is salivating at the thought of doing this, what a fucking monster

    25. stuffedandpickled on

It’s all market manipulation. Tomorrow will climax. Build up these threats to scare the world, Iran and investors. We all see the writing on the wall and expect the market to drop. Oil to spike. On Monday AM.

Trump and Co. will sell off their oil and buy back hard into the dropping market.

Trump then announces that the missing pilot will be traded and we will announce we leave and let the rest of the world handle the straight. This news will make the market shift insanely up.

      Trump and co wins.

    26. 000TheEntity000 on

so green lighting war crimes publicly? Sure, why not? it’s not as if things like laws, morals , diplomacy and tact exist anymore on this godforsaken rock

    27. Sure they are. More like doing through the steps of pretending they don’t have the US as their slave.

    28. Lord-Glorfindel on

Why wait when they’ve probably already instructed the U.S. government that they will accept?

    29. CipherWeaver on

How is deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure not a war crime?

    30. Life-is-beautiful- on

Every one feeling the sunk cost fallacy. I want my tax dollars to be used for better and progressive things.

    31. The US is letting Iran oil tankers deliver oil to keep prices down. Lifted both Iran and Russia sanctions so oil prices are lower.

Also Israel has already hit multiple energy sites because their goal is not the same as ours

    32. Remote-Ad-2686 on

Yeah go ahead and destroy 20% of the petrodollar infrastructure and create a gigantic humanitarian disaster … go ahead

    33. Why does it always seem like Israel is salivating the plunge the world into darkness.
