„Warten Sie nicht noch vier Jahre“: WM-Co-Gastgeber Kanada bietet Italien-Fans kostenlosen Trikottausch an. Italienische Fußballfans werden ermutigt, die gescheiterte Qualifikation ihrer Nationalmannschaft für die WM 2026 hinter sich zu lassen – indem sie stattdessen Co-Gastgeber Kanada unterstützen.

Drone operators and surveillance investigators aren’t free.

Canada Soccer needs all the money you can spare!!!!

Am I the only one who’s Genuinely curious on what the sentiment will be in the Italian community about this?

Like honestly makes sense, why wouldn’t Canada at the very least be your “backup team”

If you were going to wear a blue shirt in the Canada vs Italy match, don’t bother putting on a red one now that „your“ team didn’t qualify.

I appreciate the idea of cheering Canada, but give up my Italian jersey? tf?

  5. Isn’t this aimed at all the ‘Italians’ in Canada? The one whose second uncle’s grandfather had a vowel in his name..

bro, 99% of the italy supporters in canada were born in canada with 1x italian immigrant parent who have never been to italy. support whoever you want, but onr thing is not like the other. also….most of them are casual football fans and will never watch a game of football during the year. again, support whoever you want, but dont pretend to be a die hard italian football fan and then not know anything about the rules, players or history

  7. Amazing all the comments on here from adults who choose to remain living in Canada while justifying cheering for a foreign team.

I’m Polish-Canadian. Poland didn’t make it, so it’s 100% Go Canada Go for me !

Dumb idea to swap shirts. But if you’re Canadian born and you can’t cheer for Canada now you suck.

Im a die hard England fan (British Parents) and if Canada played England that’s tough for me as I support both. If England was out Canada 100%

  10. Who wants to launch a competitor branded SWAG line if Canada Soccer dares to have a sense of humour this dank:

SCdDA: „Squadra canadese di droni aerei“

  11. Some context on what’s under the surface. First, let’s add a few important pieces of context:

    1. Canada is a nation of immigrants
    2. Immigrants to Canada generally hold on to their heritage (we’re cool like that).
    3. Historically, Canada’s soccer team hasn’t been competitive

When you mix those 3 things together you end up with people going to friendlies of Canada vs <other country> to root for the other team. There are stories of Canadian national team members playing in Toronto where 90% of the fans are rooting against them.

Happily, times are changing. Our team has gotten better and there’s a path to stay at that level, and with Italy not making the world cup this is a great time for people to cheer for Canada.

  12. Italian Canadians: “I don’t understand why in Italy they don’t consider me a real Italian”

To be fair I am an immigrant to Canada and I now have dual citizenship. I would 100% support Canada over another team. Obviously England is going to be my first choice as I still fundamentally feel English but outside of England playing Canada I will support Canada. Not sure if I’d swap the shirt as I haven’t paid the ludicrous prices for an England shirt in decades. I think 2004 was the last time I had a shirt.

  14. Canada needs to build its soccer culture over decades

Until then, we need to rely on gimmicks like this

Considering a fair number of Portuguese will start backing Brazil if they get knocked out, this isn’t as weird as some make it out to be.

Also, since Canada has a fair bit of people either from Italy or have Italian descendants it’s an offer made with good intentions imho.

In the end they didn’t ask for the Italy jerseys, they just gave you Canadian jerseys.

Good PR if you ask me!

  17. Alternative_Order612 on

I don’t get this weird obsession of supporting a country you were not born in.

  18. I was there today, and received a Canada jersey. The representatives from Soccer Canada were very complimentary and stressed that they respected all that the Italian community has done to grow the game in Canada. In addition, they did not take the Italian jerseys from anyone. I can’t wait for the Work Cup this summer Forza Canada!
