For anyone more informed on this, does the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation have a reasonable case here, or are they likely to have it thrown out?
Doesn’t matter if the referendum happens or not. It won’t be recognized under the clarity act. It’ll be for show like the equalization referendum they did.
Oddly enough one of the UCP’s recent bills could make it possible for them to cancel the petition(if they ignored their own rules) since it blocks anyone from starting a citizen initiative 12 months before and after the referendum and removes the requirement for the government to respond to one.
