Both positions are understandable. Ultimately I guess the software is configurable to some extent and that can be done by India, however to integrate new missiles for example, yeah surely Thales/Dassault participation is needed as in the end it is their design. You can keep calling the plane the Rafale if you make uncontrolled modifications, and you can’t get the full source code of some of the most guarded secrets and critical systems to reuse in an indigenous system without having a massively degraded version.

Who wrote this article ? The Indian MoD knows that no company will provide the source code. Therefore, they requested API access to integrate homegrown stuff.

If we in India spent even half as much money fixing our pathetic primary education system or investing in R&D instead of handing out freebies, we woudln’t be having this discussion.

Sensible decision. The slightest modification to that source code without having an absolutely thorough understanding of how it all hangs together can lead to catastrophe. Somewhat unrelated, but I can’t help thinking of the Boeing MCAS system.

    Ask GPT.

    „Hey Rafael, shoot target“

„I’m sorry. This function is not implemented yet. Do you want me to tell you more about implemented features?“

Yeah and Pakistan will soon have a bunch of Chinese J-35s for the next skirmish. Another couple of Rafales will be downed and the Indian government will deny it under the guise of „operational security“ while placing another order for overpriced replacements from France.

At this stage, aerospace companies in India will probably have better luck stealing and reverse engineering tech like the Chinese CAC/SAC did to Soviet and western tech. But alas, HAL and Indian companies are too incompetent to even steal!

Just shell out the big bucks to the Western MIC and ensure that your businessmen friends get kickbacks from these companies. The Indian air force is screwed badly.

No Company provides source codes I thought this was well known, but some daft allies of the west think this is like some strategic victory over India

  8. Nothing burger. Article look furiously like a com-op serving some other interests.

Each Rafale cost 3000 crore. We should buy a thousand unmanned drones for that.

  10. So not only we are puchasing a $360 M jets(Most expensive fighter jet even more than F-22) but also can’t integrate our weapons, they should’ve gone for the Su-57E as a stopgap measure until AMCA, naval rafale is still a good deal.

What is this propaganda piece ? It is literally a Sukhoi ad.

India buy french Rafale since a decade now and negociations that have been going for several years has led to 26 new Rafale in 2025 and 114 Rafale in 2026.

Do someone really think this has never been talked about ? That everyone after a decade of cooperation is discovering this ?

If the goal of this article is to cancel the sales it comes way too late.
