      In Croatia everyone us an organ donor by default (but doctors always ask the family first). You can always opt out. In some countries, if you opt out, then if you need an organ you go to the back of the list…

      Real talk. Had an ex of mine die on the surgery table apparently complications during brain surgery? No idea why she was having brain surgery, was healthy as far as I could recall. They donated her corneas among other things… Money can and will buy you anything. The risk is simply not worth the reward in my opinion.

      Healthcare pro here. if you want to donate, set it up so your only donating major organs. Or just don’t.

      The reason for the push in donation is that the healthcare industry basically harvests your dead self for *all available and usable tissues*. Long bones, cancellous bone, nerves, eyes, aaand all organs. They take practically everything… Which would be ok really, except all those tissues are then processed and sold as implants or research medium… For money. Your body is essentially worth 100s of thousands of dollars to the industry.

      They want all of that for profit, they don’t give a shit how many lives get saved, if any. there is no shortage. In fact, we refuse organs on the regular for incompatibility, a totally normal process.

      Personally, if your gonna make that much, I want my kids to get a cut, I’m not beef cattle.

      Oh and…. We totally let people die for their organs. That’s real.

      That was already the case. Organs from dead people are not viable, so they already have to declare people dead beforehand to steal their organs. This is what clinical death is for. Some people survived and remember being harvested.

      „Death“ has a clear and cut meaning.

      In this context it seems like they want to extend death to include situations where your major organs are still functioning but you’re incapacitated.

      In a coma? Death.
      Amputee? Death.
      Chronically ill? Death.
      Terminally ill with years left? Death.
      Disabled? Death.
      Chronically mentally ill? Death.
      Homeless? Death.
      Life threatening injury? Death.
      In critical condition? Death.

      Opening up the definition of Death to mean whatever they want to farm organs is dangerous.

      Friend of mine had a massive heart attack followed by a stroke and seizure activity.
      He was a very fit fifty two year old with four smallish children.
      His doctors were adamant that he would not survive, even arguing with his wife that a clear brain scan was not definitive of lack of brain damage.
      They told her to prepare the children for his death. They discussed organ donation with her.
      His wife is a strong woman and she stood firm in her faith. Lo and behold he made nothing short of a miraculous recovery and is now back at work.

      I’ve removed myself from that register. Told my husband to do the same.

      I recently renewed my driver’s license and removed myself from the donor list. Just to be sure, I noted on my new ID that no donations allowed on the restrictions line, checked the „i refuse to make an anatomical gift, and signed/dated it while still at the dmv counter.

      The brain death thing is sketchy to me. Having to tie down the the dead person so that they don’t flip around trying to not get killed is a huge red flag. The fact that people have woken up during the procedure even worse.

      Most organs can’t be harvested after death either, it’s really at THE moment right before.

      Correct me if I’m wrong but from what I’ve checked over the years this is the case.

      But in the end, if this is worth money (it is), families should get payouts rather than the profits going to other places and then the family is stuck with funeral bills and in the Dystopian States of America a huge ass medical bill

      Don’t they realize the more they try to overtly extract our organs, the less people are going to sign up to be an organ doner?

      God this shit is so dystopian. I didn’t know much about MAID and all of that until a couple weeks ago and its completely insane. All of these projects turn into a „if you’re not working and making money for the economy, you’re actually selfish if you don’t give us your organs and die under a new definition of death“
