At year 5 of war, this is not what Russia wants to hear. Expanding air defence ammunition capabilities takes at minimum a year and under sanctions it’ll take longer. If Russia has a change of regaining defence of their skies, these expansions should’ve been in full swing since 2023 and in 2025 it required to be further increased and fast tracked to keep up with Ukraine’s increasing capabilities.

If Russia’s military correspondents are writing about the need for expansion in the air defence ammunition production now without such large scale operations already have existed for years now, it’s simply too late to act.

If this is truly the case and that Russia simply don’t have appropriate and realistic operations already put into action, then the alternative is to reduce Ukraine’s capabilities of striking Russia. Therefore, the only alternative for Russia might be increasing offensive capabilities. Perhaps another motivation for Russia to declare another mobilisation?

This is the time to hit Russia hard, but it might be wise to prepare for a future of record breaking low-skilled and low-equipped floods of meat — and it could be wise of Ukraine to stock up on enough drones to last for everyone.
