      He’s never respected troops. His father didn’t respect service members either. It was a big part of the falling out between Fred Trump and Fred Jr.

      Fred Trump looked down on Jr for wanting to serve in the Air Force.

      He reportedly called fallen soldiers „suckers and losers.“ Absolutely no one should be shocked that his administration’s policies treated living veterans with the exact same level of blatant contempt.

      the freeze worked until Congress and the White House totally screwed up. those vets who didnt use the program are doing decently. this batch of folks have some truly horrible options

      How any veteran could vote for someone who not only was a draft dodger but besmirched the military in every way possible is beyond me.

      Classic „thank you for your service“ followed by a swift kick to the teeth. It’s wild how we spend billions on overseas conflicts but can’t find the pocket change to keep a vet in their living room. The VA basically told these guys, „Glad you survived the IED, but good luck surviving this interest rate.“ It’s peak irony—fighting for a country that won’t even fight for your mortgage. Imagine coming home from a tour just to get outmaneuvered by a bunch of suits and a spreadsheet. Absolutely soul-crushing.

      Again and again and again Trump shows total disrespect for the military.

      These are brave and noble people who are willing to put their lives at risk for the sake of their country and Trump clearly has no qualms about ignoring them when they need help, needlessly putting them in harm’s way or just being gratuitously rude about them.

      The sooner Trump is removed from office and placed behind bars for the rest of his toxic life, the better for everyone.

      At happy hour later today the local Veterans Center parking lot will be packed with vehicles plastered with trump flags and stickers. I love the lifted Ram Truck with the F**K Kamala flag on 1 side, the Eagle,Globe, and Anchor Flag on the other side. I guarantee for some it’s a Leopards Eating Faces buffet.

      Well at least the people they don’t like are also suffering too! Hopefully when they’re sad about losing their homes, it will bring them comfort to know that somewhere, an immigrant child is being ripped from their mom and thrown into a detention facility alone!

      I am sure there are meritorious cases where help once is all people need, and I am often seeing the worst situations in my field, but I see so many people with 3 to 4 HUD or other massive mortgage (10k+) bailouts recorded who just…keep on not paying their mortgage, even with high incomes. 

      These are often not, in my view,  saving houses for veterans and others. They are corporate bailouts to give banks money when foreclosure won’t pay the full debt. They happen to benefit the recipient by letting them stay in their house a little longer.

      In the wake of the pandemic, millions of Americans with other types of federally backed mortgages took advantage of such forbearance programs.

      But then, in October of 2022, the Biden administration shut down a key part of the VA’s forbearance program that had enabled the skipped payments to be deferred.

      As a result, tens of thousands of veterans like the Ledfords were told they suddenly needed to pay that year’s worth of payments in a lump sum.

      „ And we’re like, wait a minute, what?“ Leann Ledford recalled.

      That would have been tens of thousands of dollars, which they, and most veterans in the program, couldn’t afford. Or, they would have to accept a refinanced loan at the current, much higher interest rates. Rates had sharply risen from around 3% to 7%, and that new loan would have raised the Ledfords‘ payment by about $1,000 a month. They couldn’t afford either option.

      This is the first I’m hearing about it. Super shitty because there is a fee that is part of the VA loan that basically secures the guarantee they are referencing in the article. For my house it was nearly 7 grand(it’s like 2.5% for every 100k) to pay for a protection that I no longer get.

      Dont miss loan payments and their is no issue.

      No sympathy for this or any other loan payments people miss.
      It all comes down to priorities, even in hardship you have choices to make.

      Paying your mortgage is the first priority even over food.
      But most people choose new phones and tech and Amazon shopping, then cry when they cant make loan payments.

      It is one of the biggest shame on this country the way veterans are treated. They should have the best medical and mental health support and high pay for their service. So many become homeless. VA centers have some of the worst facilities. This is one of the areas our hard earned tax dollars need to go to instead of bombs and blood shed.

      Veterans overwhelmingly voted for Trump.

      Also, as a trans person who has now seen all the trans people kicked out of the military: Trans vets are the only ones I have any modicum of sympathy for.

      I just don’t fucking care. They’re going to bring a whole bunch of folks home in boxes from Iran. Guess what? They’re not a group of people for which I hold sympathy. I won’t care as we see more and more vans with coffins stacked to the ceiling. Republicans can’t even give those corpses their own van. And these dickheads will still vote for this and still happily sign up at 18. Not my problem. Have a great time with your PTSD. I hope your benefits all get canceled. Not. My. Problem.

      Its almost fascinating to witness, how they scrap every possible fund for their own benefit. Doesn’t matter if its something that could benefit veterans, benefit sick or injured people, hungry people, homeless, research, or protecting wildlife. Doesn’t matter how little these funds are compared to a single missile being lobed at Iran right now. As long as you do not directly benefit these oligarchs you are worthless.

      When do citizens realize that? They pay taxes on everything but get nothing in return.

      I know this is probably an unpopular take but the reason for people losing their homes in this case is that they are falling behind on mortgage payments. Maybe dont buy a house or too much of a house if you dont have the savings or income to be able to make payments even if your unemployed for a few months. If you cant meet your financial obligations there should be consequences whether your a vet or not.
