> Running East West Market is a family affair for David Lee Kwen. He works alongside his daughter stocking shelves and helping customers. He fears there are tough decisions ahead.

It should be noted this is coming from an independent family owned grocery store, and not a megacorp grocer.
Cool! Another reason to jack up already high grocery prices!
– grocers, probably.
Don’t worry, the prices will stay raised once the war is over and gas prices come back down!
It’s going to rain, so prices go up. The war, prices up, my dog is depressed, prices go up. No one eats food anymore so prices go up. I saw a squirrel so prices go up
All the reasons for prices to go up but never a good enough reason for prices to come down. Look at their profits (I’m talking about the big grocers). I’m sick of this.
When was the last time we’ve had good news regarding groceries?
Its been so long I cant even remember anymore.
First it was supply chain and Covid, Inflation and now Iran.
This whole oil price thing is brutal.
-The price of oil goes up.
Oh cool, I know Canada produces lots of oil, so that means we’ll see profits from that right?
-No of course not, its the private owners who see the profits. We’ll get a few points in tax, the vast majority goes to the private owners.
Well that sucks, but at least its not hurting us in any way right?
-Wrong again, the price of gas goes up, so even if you don’t drive, the price of consumable goods will also increase because the cost of shipping them goes up.
Oh sick, its the worst of both worlds. The profit is privatized and the cost is socialized. Working class people shoulder all of the burden, and see none of the benefit.
Tell me again why capitalism is the best system? Why we just had to sell Petro-Canada?
Grocers are the new gas stations. Come to think of it a lot of grocers have gas stations in their parking lots. Probably where they got the idea to jack prices with every daily news headline.
Big grocers are just aware that we need them so they’ll keep increasing prices no matter what.
Awful people right there.
Economy doing well? „Raise prices.“ -Record profits.
Economy doing poorly? „Raise prices.“ -Record profits.
Small amount of starvation? „Raise prices.“ -Record profits.
Mass amounts of starvation? „Raise prices.“ -Record profits.
Literally what the Grocer Mafia always does. No matter the up turn or down turn, financial crisis or war. Loblaw’s METRO, and Walmart always post record profits.
I feel for the smaller independent grocers who get raw deals from people Like pepsi co who give good deals to large grocers and charges 50% more for smaller ones.
F U Gaylen!
It’s time the grocery store takes a hit instead of the customer!! Maybe reduce your profit instead of increasing prices so they continue to make massive profits!!
My farts are making food prices go up at this point. I give up.
Maybe the bloated Feds can cut taxes again so people can buy food instead of rewarding billions of $ to contractors where they have friends and family to do nothing work. What a dumpster fire.
They just raised the industrial carbon tax again today. Not a care in the world about people not being able to afford food or gas.
If you seriously support the LPC party after all this, you really need to get your head checked and stay away from state funded propaganda.
The hike in the industrial carbon tax will also hurt
Yea sure…
Iran conflict is a strange way of spelling government.
Thank goodness taxes went up that’ll help
At this point I’m truly convinced the oligarchs pay or fund the news media to put this deception out.
Sounds to me like we need a new crown corporation grocery store.
I thought it was due to COVID? Sheer profit taking.
Oil producing countries should decouple from the world price of oil. There’s no functional reason why a war in Iran should make gas increase in price by more than 50% in Edmonton, Alberta or Galveston, Texas.
The entire economic system is a scam designed to ensure profits for select sections of the supply chain regardless of how great or bad things are.
Privatizing profits, socializing losses.
Given that lettuce has fucking TRIPLED over the course of the last five years, I have a really hard time believing that the price of diesel (which has remained mostly over the same time) is drastically influencing the price. The reality is this is just another bullshit excuse to raise prices and fleece the public.
(Seriously, lettuce is fucking >$5 a head these days. I still remember when you could get it for $1.50 – 2.50 depending on the time of year).
Is it that or is it these companies looking for any excuse to start gouging prices
Grocery stores should not beaking record profits if they are having to raise prices. Infact they should be lowering their profits to help us out. Fucking fuckers.
I’m tired of everything being blamed on anything and everything but our leaders
Or whatever other pathetic excuse they can come up with
Are we really not being gouged enough already? At what point do grocery store profits plummet because no one can afford to eat? Food banks are already beyond capacity. Will the 1% be happy when we’re all homeless and starving? What is that going to do for their profits?
Wonder what excuse they’ll use for the inevitable price increase in like 3-6 months from now. Enough already ffs.
