In diesem Film geht es um mehr als nur um eine seltsame alte Dame, die Hexerei betreibt. Es ist eine Metapher für die Kontrolle der okkulten Elite über die Gesellschaft. Und auf relativ verschleierte Weise schildert der Film die „Landwirtschaft“ von Kindern und ihre Ausbeutung zum Zweck der Jugenderhaltung. Tatsächlich dreht sich die Hauptmotivation der Hexe, auch wenn dies im Film nicht dargelegt wird, darin, Kindern Blut (oder vielleicht Adrenochrom) zu entnehmen, um es in ihrem alten, heruntergekommenen Körper zu extrahieren. Hollywood liebt dieses Thema. Auch der Film The Substance basiert auf diesem Konzept. Und es gewann auch Oscars.
Wenn die Hexe ihr Glöckchen läutet, übernimmt sie die Kontrolle über die Person.
Auf der Glocke ist ein rätselhaftes Symbol eingraviert: ein umgekehrtes Dreieck mit der Zahl 6. Obwohl die Bedeutung des Symbols im Film nie explizit erklärt wird, lässt sie sich recht leicht erschließen. Dreiecke haben drei Seiten. Kombiniert mit der Zahl 6 ergibt sich 666 – die Zahl des Biests. Mit anderen Worten: Gladys wird von einer satanischen Macht bewohnt.

Was also just a really good horror movie
Also just a solid ass movie. The director wrote it from the perspective of being the kid of an alcoholic parent and the hopelessness he felt watching it take over and destroy their lives. It makes the scene with the forks hit that much harder for me.
The director was best friends with Trevor Moore. He knows what goes on. RIP Trevor.

Fun fact: Zach Cregger, the director of ‘Weapons’ was a prominent member of WKUK and good friends with Trevor Moore. I think he’s doing it for the right reasons, not the wrong.
Another fun fact: he’s directing the new Resident Evil movie. If he nails it better than anyone else, he’ll solidify himself as a GOATED director (if not considered that already)

But for Christ’s sake. Witches taking children is a tale as old as time. In some countries „boogyeman“ is a woman, a witch that comes to suck out the souls of children while they sleep (kinda like in the plot of the movie??? Except she brings children to her), for refrence google Baba Yaga, Babaroga and so on.
Other than that it’s a decent horror movie.
And it’s one of the thousand movies and stories dealing with this topic.
Oh yeah and as far as satanic connection is concerned, yeah, witches often get mentioned in that context. Salem trials, witch hunts by church and so on.
