    1. Seen the „breaking news“ pic a few hrs ago, knew it wasn’t going to be good with the tent up beside the truck.

    2. O’ Connell street and abbey street are so bloody dangerous for cyclists.

You’ve got the luas, cars, taxis, work vehicles with no separation from the road for cyclists. Again, the infrastructure to keep the most vulnerable away from cars in this country is an absolute disaster.

Rest in peace to the young man who lost his life today.

Someone has just been hit by a vehicle here in Cork on Patrick Street too. Looks to be fatal given the road is closed. Shocking day for road users unfortunately.

We really need to start banning cycling in areas which could be dangerous

    5. We need to save this article when people start fantasising about more of us commuting to work with a bike.

Brazilian pages are saying he was 20 and only arrived in mid March. Such a tragedy.

    7. I haven’t cycled to work since October. The lack of respect given to cyclists in this country is a joke.

    8. May the poor young man rest in peace. May his family be strengthened and comforted in the face of this horror.

Every politician, by name, who advocates in favour of the current road set up, where people and children and bicycles trying to traverse their own local communities are forced to compete for space (and tragically it seems, their very lives) with trucks and cars and vans and on and on… shares a blame in what has happened here today. When you block proper infrastructure for locals to be able to cycle, when you privilege car traffic over community lives you are putting real people into harms way.

It was a guy on scrambler and came under a cement truck.

The incident happen in front of my workplace. It was on a Luas track and the service was impacted for a long time due to blockade.
