I have an honest question and i don’t want to offend anyone. I thougnt EOKA [and pls correct me if I am wrong] fought for ENOSIS. People back then identify themselves as greeks and consider such enosis as liberation and greek nation is where they should have belong. This is what my grandfathers tought me. The simple message from normal farmers. „We fought to unite with Hellas“
Why then did the historical narrative change and when most refer to EOKA fight instead of ENOSIS the message is „EOKA fought to free Cyprus from British colonial rule“?? Such message is different and implies common people fought for independant nation right? – which in my knowledge was not the case of EOKA fight and sacrifices nor the will of the common people…
Again this is a respectfull question from a guy who just wants to understand what really happened.
Beginning of the period which made peaceful decolonization impossible and put bad blood between Turkish and Greek Cypriots.
