      Br’er Fox creates a figure made of tar and turpentine, placing it in Br’er Rabbit’s path to trap him. When the rabbit attacks the silent figure to show it disrespect, he becomes hopelessly stuck; to escape, he begs Br’er Fox to do anything but throw him into the briar patch, which the fox assumes is a deadly place.
