  1. > Milly Alcock told Vanity Fair in a new interview that she’s aware she’ll face backlash over leading Warner Bros. “Supergirl” simply because she’s playing a female superhero. The 25-year-old actor is no stranger to dealing with intense fandoms having broke out as young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” prequel series “House of the Dragon.”

    > “It definitely made me aware that simply existing as a woman in that space is something that people comment on,” Alcock said. “We have become very comfortable having this weird ownership of women’s bodies. I can’t really stop them. I can only be myself.”

    > Vanity Fair also asked Alcock about legendary directors such as Martin Scorsese and Ridley Scott speaking out against the superhero genre. Scorsese infamously compared comic book movies to theme park rides when talking about the worrisome state of film exhibition, while Scott said superhero movies are “boring as shit” and “they aren’t any fucking good.” Alcock does not seem to mind.

    > “I get it. They’ve been around for fucking ever making phenomenal films,” she said. “Not every film is for everyone. The beauty of art is that you can be selective.”

Well, I don’t really like Ridley Scott’s non historical, historical movies either. So there! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  3. Not a fan of superhero movies all that much anymore, but I also can’t remember the last Scorsese movie I enjoyed either.

I was waiting for a coffee in Kyoto a few weeks ago and Milly Alcock was literally next to me outside smoking a dart and talking to her boyfriend. She seems like a real cool hang but she is *tiny*

I think the majority of the human race over estimates how valuable their opinion is. I include myself in that majority.

  6. I rather have this be accepted about Superhero movies rather than Superhero movies that are self conscious and embrassed of the source material. Yes 2000s X Men and Batman had to do it to recover from the goofiness of Batman and Robin(Which I love) but atp we see there’s a market for it and we don’t need to handhold general audiences as if they can’t suspend disbelief

    > The movie also stars…Jason Momoa as the alien mercenary Lobo.

Wait I thought Momoa was Seaman.

Hmmm i.mean dome supehero.mobies are films but some are just…dreck

Probably will get hate here but as far as actual cinema and film a lot of superhero films don’t do anything to advance film.as as art gorm and I think.their point has been proven

if studios are only doing those types of movies the amount or opportunities to get something different is really stifled.

The success of Sinners or Bugonia are proof that Superhero films are kinda losing their appeal when those films are clocking huge BO returns but that Superman movie barely broke even

Gladiator 2 was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen so I’ll take Ridley Scott’s opinion with a few grains of salt

I’m a lifelong comic book geek and I think she looks great in this role. Yeah, I’m old enough to have had a big crush on Helen Slater back in the day, but Milly’s Supergirl is going to absolutely knock it out of the park if they nail the adaptation from the source material (*Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow* by Tom Taylor and Bilquis Evely… so damned good).

There will always be haters and people who can’t stand new takes on characters they think they have some weird ownership of. Can’t do anything about it except try and mute the noise.

And seriously… go read the book. Lobo isn’t in it but I think he’ll be a great addition to the movie adaptation.
