Between 1100 and 1600, Jewish communities were expelled from multiple parts of Europe, including England, France, and various German states, often repeatedly.

This is an interesting map, but would be significantly better if you hadn’t sliced it into two separate image files for no apparent reason.

I only knew about WWII situation and learned more at the Jewish Museum in Berlin. This was something that had happened over and over. Then there were the special hats Jews had to wear, what a sad history.

Historically, Jewish communities survived better in Muslim states like al-Andalus, the Ottoman Empire, Safavid Iran or Yemen.

Correct me if I am wrong but the idea of being a distinctive Sephardic Jew became a thing after the expulsion

There was something similar done by the French.
The Code noir (French pronunciation: [kɔd nwaʁ], Black code) was a decree passed by King Louis XIV of France in 1685, defining the conditions of slavery in the Antilles, then also Louisiana, and served as the code for slavery conduct in the French colonies up until 1789, the year marking the beginning of the French Revolution. The decree restricted the activities of free people of color, mandated conversion to Catholicism for all enslaved people throughout the empire, defined the punishments meted out to them, and ordered the expulsion of all Jews from France’s colonies.

Crazy how when Christian/European kicked Jewish people out, they were taking in by Muslim/Arab countries, then Europeans decided to make up for prosecuting the Jewish community, by taking Arab land and making a state for them there, not by, I don’t know, reforming their own societies and governments to protect the European Jewish population?

It’s insane how all this happened in Europe under full or semi Christian rulers, yet the Muslims get all the hate today despite providing refuge at the time to Jews (namely in Morocco and some Ottoman regions including Jerusalem)

Some of the Jews expelled from Portugal in 1497 and Spain in 1492 were given special royal dispensation to enter Norway, thus starting the history of the Jews in Norway. Interestingly, though Norway shared monarchs with Denmark and Sweden at the time, their history of Jews in their country doesn’t start until the 1600s

I had to look up Scotland – There were officially no recorded Jews at the time so no official expulsion was made.
For Ireland – they were at least kicked out of English controlled parts in 1290.
