The settlement speed point is the one that doesn’t get enough attention. T1 isn’t just inconvenient — it’s a systemic risk vector. The 2021 GameStop situation showed exactly what happens when settlement lag meets volatility.
The real infrastructure question is: which L1s can actually handle tokenized equities at scale? You need sub-second finality with institutional-grade security guarantees, not just „fast when the network isn’t congested.“ Most current chains haven’t been stress-tested anywhere near what equity markets would demand — NYSE alone processes 1B++ transactions on a heavy day.
