pretty interesting that despite much larger mountains (many 3,000 and 4,000+ foot peaks) New Hampshire has an average elevation lower than that of PA, which tops out with only a couple peaks approaching 3,000 feet in elevation.

The South is going to have fun with the updated rising ocean estimates. Florida, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippie, Arkansas, Georgia and Texas are all going to have HUGE oyster farms. The best news, they won’t be seeing as many tornados.

I like my states like I like my women, not flat and and not republican

I grew up in Delaware and the elevation at my house was 7′. 🤗
Fun fact: Hurricane Sandy was set to make landfall in Delaware in 2012 and would have absolutely fucking decimated Sussex County. It only changed course for New York a day before making landfall.

Florida is much higher than I would have expected. I would have thought it would be like 10 or so feet. The extreme northern section must be doing most of the heavy lifting.

Color me surprised that Texas has an average elevation of 1,700 feet and that Nebraska and Kansas approach California average elevation.

I am actually surprised Colorado is that high.
I know the Rockies take up a big chunk of the state, but I thought the east and southwestern parts were fairly flat.

Area around Jackson Hole must be doing a lot of heavy lifting to be higher than Utah. Granted I’ve only ever been in the flatter parts of WY

Montana is a bit disappointing given its name is Mountain.

I’m really surprised at the difference between Washington and Oregon given their (very broadly) similar geographies and Washington’s taller peaks.

Doesn’t NC have the highest point in the Appalachians? I guess that coastal plain is really flat.

Colorado is definitely the highest state

Wow – I didn’t realize just how low Illinois is – FLAT and LOW!

Texas and Washington averaging the same elevation is not registering with me.

Seems crazy Hawaii averages 3,030 feet. So much coast line at 0 feet.

so many people in this thread are mindblown that flat land can be above sea level

Would be fun to see this but population weighted, like average elevation that people live at

No wonder everyone I’ve met from Colorado was high /s

I would love to see this for the entire world. It also hurts my brain that TX & WA have the same average elevation.
