**Translation:**
On Poland’s eastern border, a modern electronic barrier will be built to increase the country’s security and improve the effectiveness of protection against illegal border crossings. The investment, estimated at around 450 million zlotys, will cover a section of the Nadbużański Border Guard Unit. The contractor selection process has just begun.
On the Polish–Ukrainian border, within the border road zone supervised by the Nadbużański Border Guard Unit, an advanced technological electronic barrier will be constructed, reports RMF FM journalist Krzysztof Zasada. The project includes the installation of underground cables detecting seismic vibrations, fiber optics for data transmission, and power cables. On the surface, poles with daylight and thermal imaging cameras will be installed, monitoring the area 24/7.
All system data is to be sent directly to the monitoring center at the unit’s headquarters, where it will be analyzed by border guard officers. This solution is intended to enable a rapid response to any attempts of illegal border crossing, as well as to other threats.
**Funding in question**
The cost of the investment, estimated at around 450 million zlotys, is to be covered from several sources, our journalist reports. One of them is the EU SAFE program, however its implementation has encountered an obstacle in the form of a presidential veto. Intensive consultations are currently underway regarding securing the missing funds for the project.
Possible start dates of the works are also being negotiated and will depend on the selection of contractors and the availability of financial resources.
**Reasons for construction – security as a priority**
The decision to build the electronic barrier was made due to the growing threat resulting from Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine. Services emphasize that the situation on Poland’s eastern border is dynamic, and the activities of criminal groups as well as the increase in acts of sabotage in the country require decisive preventive measures.
The barrier is intended not only to hinder illegal border crossings, but also to increase the effectiveness of detection and response to any incidents that may threaten state security.
Following the announcement of the tender, the process of selecting contractors for the investment has begun. Interest in the project is high, however the final decision will depend on financial capabilities and meeting strict technological requirements. The tender provides for the possibility of canceling the procedure if sufficient funds are not secured.
