    1. My kid watches YouTube shorts and every so often I hear something along the lines of, „person A and person B were doing something stupid, but stop for a second and hit the like and subscribe button if Jesus is your Lord and Savior, or hit the dislike button if you love Satan.“ I tell my kid these are bad videos put out by bad people who are lying to him so they can control him and take his money, because I figure he’s too young to understand the word „indoctrination.“

Edit: He’s watching now and one just came on

    2. And this is exactly why the kids aren’t let loose on YouTube.

Even before the AI slop, the utter brainrot on there was enough to keep them away from it. I’m a frequent YouTube watcher myself, but I only watch channels on pretty specific subjects (vintage computers, synths, railways) and I stick to channels with real people.

A few videos that looked interesting have cropped up lately in my suggestions, but are basically AI produced slideshows reading the Wikipedia page. Utterly pointless cash grabs.

This is actually why I don’t let my kids watch YouTube. They are the biggest failures of content moderation. I’d rather pay a service dedicated to kids knowing at least one reasonable simian brain saw the video and Ok’d for release.

Clankers getting a head start thinning out the heard before the first Great War.

They don’t care because the more people watch, the more they get paid.

    6. My favorite song from those videos so far is “Fork in an outlet”. Its very catchy

I used to let my kids watch YouTube kids but AI slop and other crap have taken over.

The home page of YouTube Kids is actually fine. It’s full of educational channels from trusted names like BBC or Sesame Street, etc. but once you go in those videos the suggestions/related videos are just the fucking Wild West of AI slop, people playing with toys, and other nonsense videos designed to just get and keep your attention.

I download and self host all my kids content now using Jellyfin. If they ever watch YouTube it’s on the tv with us in the room and only channels that show content otherwise on TV.

    8. I just had a children’s video pop up discussing how to trade crypto.

We are in the darkest timeline.

Oh my goodness—you’re so right! Children definitely should not be walking in the street, especially if it’s a busy street. 🤪 Let’s take another shot at the script, this time with an emphasis on *running* in the street. It’s faster than walking, and those kids will definitely be able to dodge a few random vehicles! 🚗🚗🚗
