This expansionist crap is so hot rn. Iowa is trying to steal a few southern counties from Minnesota as well

What would be the point of this? For political reasons? Economic? I’m assuming it’s the former, as Texas’s economy is much stronger than New Mexico’s.

If that happened and Hobbs switched states, where would West Texans go to get their weed???

I’m surprised they didn’t try and get Eddy County as well.
If anyone is curious, Lea county, Roosevelt county, and Eddy county are the bulk of the Permian Basin shale deposits in New Mexico, along with bits in Chaves and Otero

But this would ruin the iconic Texas shape. My belt buckle and waffle iron will be useless.

I oppose this. Not on any constitutional or moral grounds, but the fact that it would be difficult and confusing to draw. Why don’t we take the panhandle from Oklahoma instead? Just a slightly taller hat?

that should be illegal purely because it would mess up the single most iconic & recognizable state shape

I think this is driven mostly by oil and gas interests so of all the redrawing of state lines proposals I’ve seen this might be the most viable. That said, every Best Western in Texas would need to order new waffle irons if it goes through so that may but the brakes on the whole thing.

New Mexican here: the flippant part of me wants to say, „fine, trade you for El Paso, which should have been ours to begin with.“
The realist in me knows oil and gas is about the only economic driver NM has, and losing those counties would be semi-catastrophic, even if they culturally fit Texas more than the rest of NM.
