„Ich kann nicht glauben, dass das passiert“: iPhone-Benutzer drohen, wegen der neuen iOS-Altersverifizierung auf Android umzusteigen – und ich würde das Gleiche tun

iPhone users threatening to defect to Android, while I, as an Android user, would just give up smartphones entirely if Google pushed the same crap.

    2. gamersecret2 on

I get why people are mad, because the second your phone starts asking for age proof, it stops feeling like your device and starts feeling like a checkpoint.

    3. Serenity867 on

Users will need to switch to something like Graphene because Android is going to do the same shit. It’s sad that average people are too lazy to push back against this shit.

If you’re even looking at this comment you’re probably not the “average people” I’m referring to.

Ok so, this is a LAW passed by the UK that Apple is abiding by. Google will absolutely follow suit. Bring Back Dumb Flip Phones!

    5. They’re going to be so disappointed when Android pushes the exact same thing soon, and then they’re stuck on a crappy Android phone, lol.

    6. Shr1mpolaCola on

It’ll be a hassle, but I’m not against a world of dumb phones and dedicated media players/devices. An „Everything“ device seems less and less like a benefit these days

    7. Guilty_Advantage_413 on

This is a UK thing. I think it’s important to note this isn’t an everywhere thing.

    8. Peppy_Tomato on

They’re gonna make whole lotta noise and then stay put. Age verification is coming for every thing.

The internet had a nice fun run, but the wild and free days are over.

    9. Funny, there’s a bunch of android user threatening to move to apple due to the sideloading block google looking to implement.

    10. If you add your driver’s license to your Apple Wallet, it uses it for age and identity verification.

    11. “Almost all major U.S. phone companies require a date of birth (DOB) for postpaid service, as they must verify that you are at least 18 years old to enter a legally binding contract.”

What am I missing here? Every phone I’ve bought for the last 10 years has required my DOB for a service plan.

Is the freakout over prepaid phones? Even with prepaid burners, jail broken and foreign bought devices in airplane mode they can still track you via router access, voice ID and WiFi if they want.

Sorry if I’m missing the rage point but happy to educate myself if someone can break it down.

They are just complying with the law. Google, Microsoft and ALL other operating systems distributers will need to add this feature, too. Android, Linux distros, Windows… It does not matter. They will all need to collect a users age to comply with the law.

You need to be mad at the clueless lawmakers who decided this was a good idea.

    13. As if Android won’t also introduce similar features soon.

Blame your government, not Apple in this case. I certainly do, living in California.

    14. Andriod will require this too. There is no where to go. the government will have our ID on all our devices so they can ensure we do not have wrong think. Get ready for ICE to stop by to check for proper allegiance to the right God and the king.

If I have been using iphones since 2008, can I tell them to go fuck themselves by default?

Some services will grandfather you. All my fake info on facebook is still valid decades later.

    16. Considering literally the exact same thing is coming to android… good luck with that.

And before someone says “you can just use a different version of Android that doesn’t do this!” Come on y’all, the vast majority of people aren’t installing a new version of Android on their phone, let alone newly converted iPhone users. Be real.

    17. This is mass survilence, it will continue to get worse if we dont throw a fit and stop buying it.

    18. Putting this on an overwhelming majority of a given population’s consumers under the xcuse of protecting the kids is pure fuckery.

Age verifictions do not protect minors. Age verfications do not prevent circumvention by minors but age verifications do piss off your population. Who frankly, should be enact a general strike to inform intrusive legislatiing bodies that they’re going to have to tighten their belts for a while or, cut the shit stop invading people’s fundamental privacy.

Government, does not need to know an internet user’s age.

As for hardware, software, and internet site providers, you can fight this shit in the open or you can see revenue drop. I’d say it’s a simple choice.

    19. Scanning most of the comments … don’t see much relating to blame of the officials THEY elected. Corps. do what they are told so they can continue making money. But sure let’s get out the pitchforks and torches for Apple/Google but not the officials that caused this.

      SMFH.

yeah, I’m not sure what the best course of action is.

I mean, the best course of action is to not do it.

But when you have states like california making it a legal requirement that all OS’s have it.
And you have a legal precedent where companies that produce technology „like web browser cookies“ that do not conform to california state laws, citizens of the state can take the technology company to the courts and win.

It’s a bit of a lose lose situation. I’m mad that I’m on the mega corps side on this.
I hate apple. This is stupid.

    21. LoneStarDragon on

Convenient how the only tech company this isn’t hurting is Zuckerberg. The guy who lobbied for it in the first place.

    22. TheWeirdDude-247 on

I bought the S25U last year….my next phone WILL be a Chinese phone, iv been a Samsung stan since D500……og will know, iv never had any other brand.

Rumours suggest they going Apple route…..blocking side loading……China have great phones that are cheaper….but have freedom….which id actually pay more for.

99% S25U is my last SK product and I will without hesitation go to their rivals.

    23. AintNoGodsUpHere on

What I don’t understand is why no company is pushing against this when they already have parental controls? Parental controls areore than enough to limit and control everything a kid does.

What exactly are they getting from it? It can’t be just data.

    24. Understandable, but android is very likely going to have similar issues soon. This is a bandwagon companies have decided to jump on and push for in the last year or two that won’t be abandoned unless we push for reps to repeal these laws, affirm our rights to privacy, and vote out any of them that try to pull us into feckless restrictions and overreaching regulations.

    25. rainbowclownpenis69 on

Absolutely not. I would rather tattoo my SSN than have to use an Android phone.

    26. otherwisepandemonium on

Better to just stay in the fight and try to have these useless age verification laws overturned.

    27. Bigd1979666 on

Oh boy. What’s the reasoning for this? Will it only be applied to the regular folks or will politicians and officials have to go through it as well?

    28. Brave-Cash-845 on

In 2027 GOS will have their own phone thanks to the Partnership with Lenovo / Motorola.

    29. woodpaulusgnome on

Because I have had an apple login for the best part of two decades, apple has correctly identified that I must be an adult. I’m fine with it.

    30. Winged_Cougar1993598 on

The ability to gain root control over my Android should keep me safe from it until Google finishes their plan to prevent users from ever gaining root access.

I’ll just go back to using a flip phone if this takes over both Android and iPhone, unless Linux phone(yes, that exists) turns out to be a viable alternative.

    31. Aranthos-Faroth on

      “And I’d do the same”

Says reporter who wrote the entire article with ai

    32. This makes no sense. Isn’t it a requirement in the UK law?? Android will be required to comply as well.

    33. HelloLucrehulk on

Who doesn’t have apple pay and a credit card already on their iPhone? That’s so bizarre to me

    34. Cant go to android because googles doing the same. We need an open source third party

    35. Everyone needs to push back on AV

Also if you live in the UK and own a iphone, you need to look at talking to lawyer, seeing operating systems are not covered by the OSA.
