The post title makes no sense in context of the poll, or any context really.

Just call NHK an anti-Japanese media outlet, and nobody will care about this anymore.

Well yeah, the school system doesn’t exactly cover the imperial atrocities.

>***“…half of the Japanese people do not know the identity of Japan’s past invaders.“***
The post title makes no sense.
The question was not about „Japan’s invaders“ (that is, countries invading Japan).
Rather, it was about countries that were invaded ***by*** Japan, such as Korea, Taiwan, Manchuria/China and then Asia more widely, including Hong Kong, modern-day Vietnam – Laos – Cambodia (then Indochina), Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Burma, Indonesia, Timor, New Guinea and various Pacific islands.

Well, I can’t tell Japanese people what to think. And I certainly can’t force my „western values“ on them. But personally, as a German, if this was in Germany, I would be deeply, deeply ashamed.
Now, I’m not saying we don’t have crazy right-wing nutjobs or worse in Germany, that would really like to not talk about the very bad things the country did in the past. And I’m sure these people have been, are trying to whitewash textbooks or whatever. All I can say is that as far as I know, right now, it’s a very serious topic being taught and discussed in school, so if students would claim to not know if we did something wrong or not, that would be unthinkable.
You are not better than anyone else. You deserve your laurels for your accomplishments, and you deserve your shame for your atrocities. The only way people are ever going to respect you is if you take a deep look at yourself and teach newer generations the good and the bad you did, without glossing over anything.
I mean there are a myriad of problems in the education system in Japan, so having this sort of critical discussion is probably far from easy, but it should be something to strive for. Or else we are just going to repeat the past, look at other countries.

Really, you want to say in a country where the majority of people don’t know, in other countries in Europe there are different languages from English they don’t have common sense? What a surprise.

The last time Japan was invaded were during WW2 by the Americans. They should at least know that Imperial Japan was the aggressor from their history books.

my japanese co-workers in their 20’s refuse to believe the shit Japan has done in the past, saying it could be false information.
I mean it’s one thing to not educate yourself about your past but refusing to believe it is on another level

Will you people posting this put up a fucking sensible and correct title?

Is this surprising? Just like how some people here have already started denying this survey.

Should it not be labeled the 第二次世界大戦 in Japanese? “ The war before” – who refers to it as that?
