OpenAI lost its 10-figure deal with the entertainment giant after shuttering its video-generating app Sora on Tuesday — and it doesn’t seem to be because Disney wants out of the AI game.

Neither party immediately confirmed whether OpenAI’s discontinuation of Sora forced Disney out of the deal, or whether Disney got cold feet about shoveling money into a slop generator. But a statement from a Disney spokesperson, who said the company „will continue to engage with AI platforms to find new ways to meet fans where they are“ suggests the former is much more likely.

For context OpenAI were spending about $5B per year to run Sora and generating almost no revenue from it. Probably a smart decision to kill it.

Wild that an entire BILLION DOLLARS is a drop in the bucket regarding money burned by this company. Absolute nonsense.

  4. The truth is OpenAi is far behind others with AI video making. SeeDance was the final nuke on it

  5. burning billions on a product nobody asked for and then losing your biggest client. classic silicon valley speedrun

  6. Combined with their screw up with Microslop. Things are starting to look shaky for them.

  7. It’s because they have that sweet, sweet Department of Defense contractor money now.
