Yeah, I basically wanna play one or two games. You’re not gonna convince me the experience of playing those games is worth buying a $630 CAD console.

    2. Maybe it would help if they release some games for it? I feel like Nintendo has a problem where they do this every console launch. There’s like one or two big games that are supposed to tide everyone over for like a year until Zelda or Metroid comes out. Rinse and repeat.

Was anyone else surprised and think it was odd that the consoles were so readily available the whole year?

I bought one for my son for his birthday last summer expecting it to be like finding a turbo man at Christmas and they were never that hard to get other than the first month or so.

I wonder when Switch 1 „fasting selling console in [timeframe]“ will catch up to Switch 2.

    5. I bought one for my wife and she loves it but it’s really light on good exclusives. I’m not surprised by the production cut, Nintendo hasn’t done themselves any favors with what they’ve released game-wise so far.

    6. In Canada it’s just not worth buying. It cost $630 + $100 games + 13% Tax.

Then additional $70 for a year of Nintendo Online or $110 for a Pro controller.

    7. I only want to play Fire Emblem game. I was looking at the library nothing that moves me yet.

Did they confirm it’s projected sales? Or is this more collateral damage from not being able to afford parts due to AI gobbling them all up

Because we have to give all the money to the billionaires now, we can’t afford anything.

    10. Can I walk into a best buy and get one?

Genuinely curious, I’ve had mine since launch and love it but not sure how stock has been

    11. nintendo’s raised prices like the rest of the industry, while most people are having to budget groceries, gas, and rent.

    12. Without really knowing the specs, it looks iterative and it doesn’t compel me to upgrade.

    13. Have the switch one. Nothing amazing to make me upgrade. Now if you never had a switch or your old one broke that’s a different story.

    14. they got greedy.

instead of creating the next gen, they just did an upgrade on last gen and charge you more.

    15. I suspect the wildly inflated costs for supplies being driven by AI boom bullshit is also playing a part. Sales aren’t strong enough to justify keeping that much extra stock on hand

I actually had one for a couple days before returning it. It made the games I own for Switch like Skyrim and Witcher 3 look like absolute crap vs how they look on the original switch. The joycons were still awful just slightly bigger and the aftermarket is really limited still for decent gripcons with hall effect or tmr sticks. It was definitely not worth keeping for me.

    17. The only reason I’d even consider buying one would be for Zelda, Smash Bros, and Pokemon games. I don’t feel it’s even close to worth it.

There’s a TON of stock still. Couple that with they’re probably shipping all the Switch 2s from Europe to here since they need to follow EU rules about batteries immediately. This is before pointing out the fact that everyone is broke, it’s an expensive system and everyone’s friends they game with are still just on switch.

The only reason we have one is because we’re both employed adults with no children and our 1 OLED broke. We’d ordered the 2 before realizing they still sold the OLED, and I won’t lie, it’s a much nicer piece of kit, but the software incentive to get one really isn’t there yet if you have a functional OG model.

I’ll get it once we get a few more games. It’s just too expensive in the current economy when I already have a Switch 1, PS5, and a gaming PC. I have more than enough gaming to do

    21. theproductdesigner on

I’m waiting for the OLED version and a special Zelda edition at that probably. Before then this purchase can wait. Why they didn’t launch with an OLED screen is beyond me.

    22. I have not bought a Switch 2. Too expensive. I won’t until I can get it on sale. Still too many games still to play on Switch 1. But I never buy a new console in the first few years anyways.

Had they made it OLED from the start at a reasonable price, it wouldn’t have been lackluster.

    24. zillskillnillfrill on

Or they could.. you know… drop the price so normal people can afford it?
