Nah, people blame you all for voting for him. Apart from MAGA no one was surprised by any of this.

The author cites a recent personal anecdote about an Irish friend bursting out in contempt for the United States during a casual confrontation, followed by another petty Truth Social post about making Venezuela the 51st state, followed by his musings on American allies shunning all its calls for help in the war against Iran, America being downgraded in the Democracy Index and Trump’s open imperialism towards Greenland, Iran and Cuba, to make a case for why America under the Trump administration has become hated as a nation.

It feels like this is taking a very complex system and compressing it into one clear narrative. Leadership matters but global perception is shaped by a much broader set of factors. My concern is what gets blamed once Trump is no longer the explanation.

Well that headline is something. It completely absolves the 30% of Americans who are totally and fully onboard the MAGA train.
I would say Trump is certainly the ringleader, but he didn’t force those people to abandon morality.

„Now, there’s one thing you might have noticed I don’t complain about: politicians. Everybody complains about politicians. Everybody says they suck. Well, where do people think these politicians come from? They don’t fall out of the sky. They don’t pass through a membrane from another reality. They come from American parents and American families, American homes, American schools, American churches, American businesses and American universities, and they are elected by American citizens. This is the best we can do folks. This is what we have to offer. It’s what our system produces: Garbage in, garbage out. If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, you’re going to get selfish, ignorant leaders.“ – George Carlin
Nah, Americans did this, not just Trump.

Yes, let’s ignore the fact that the US is a democracy with a long history of meddling in other countries, toppling governments, spreading chaos, and causing mass death.

Nah, you can argue about how many people voted for him and how the elections should work and stuff. But that doesn’t change the fact that everyone knows a lot of Americans voted for this guy and approve of him.
Genuinely, the rest of the world considers a large chunk of Americans to be insane fascism supporters.
Trump, and the fact that a lot of Americans support him, is doing immense damage to the image of the US that would take decades to fix (if it even happens at all).

No. The hatred has always been there.

The Republicans are responsible. Are they calling for Trump impeachment? They are not, because they are satisfied with the current situation.

Trump could not do what he does without the Republican controlled congress letting him do it. The Republican controlled congress is sanctioning his actions. Even the occasional Republican congressman who occasional says something publicly goes ahead and votes along with the Republican majority.
Trump could not do what he is doing without having his criminal behavior being absolved and excused by the Conservative controlled Supreme court and several lower courts.
Trump is a symptom and not the root cause.

Unfortunately for Americans, history didn’t start in 2016 or 2024 for that matter nor did the world’s hatred for em. It was built brick by brick over the decades with strong foundations and I’m talking about just the 21st century. A Democrat President wouldn’t reset it just cuz they are sneaky about the whole American imperialism thingy.
Trump is just whatchu guys truly are without the filters cuz he represents the „American exceptionalism“ core identity part properly

People hate you exactly because you are putting the blame on one person, while the blame is on all individuals of the nation. You should hold responsibility and accept that you are part of the problem. Those who voted for him are directly responsible of supporting a fascist regime. Those who didn’t vote for him are indirectly responsible, for letting corruption take over their party and not being able to present a credible alternative. Trump is the symptom of a sick nation. He is not acting alone and wasn’t elected in a vacuum.
Why Americans are letting him do all what he is doing is beyond understanding for the rest of the world. In many other countries that won’t happen. It’s another thing Americans need to take responsibility for, rather than being passive and putting the blame on others.

America as a nation was already massively hated. Now you’re just also hated by basically the entire west so to speak.

It must be nice to have such cognitive dissonance to think that the hatred felt for the US globally is down to Trump and Trump alone.
