As tragic as this is, good on then for being clear, upfront and honest about the economy being the reason, rather than hiding behind AI.

I know someone who works for Epic, they’re currently in the dark and locked out of their accounts but so far looks like they’ve lost a lot of their team. Entire departments gone. It’s even more brutal than last time.

I feel for the employees lost due to unsustainable growth targets and the dipshit choices crammed in to support monetizing the game to the point where it feels insulting.

Aside from it being a terrible time for most people to be plowing hundreds of dollars into a game, Meta is currently being skewered in court for their apps cultivating and exploiting addiction and if they lose that case there will be dire consequences for Fortnite and the wider smartphone gaming and social media industry.

Quick give aways so more games that most people won’t play, that’ll get customers in

Does this mean they will stop giving me all those free games ?

You mean to say that a long-in-the-tooth free to play game did not have an infinite growth trajectory?
I’m shocked.

It would be interesting to see where they are planning the cuts. I assume the Fortnite team is heavily impacted, but for instance how much percentage-wise is being cut in the Epic Games Store, Unreal Engine and the other game development teams?

It’s obviously blocking the Linux users from ability to play Fortnite that’s to blame.

You can’t tell me it’s those people fault. In all those years a 1000 talented humans could not find the inspiration to make something worthwhile together?
Something’s fishy.

I’d still play Fortnite if it had kept the sort of uncanny vibe it had in the first few seasons.
I tried loading it up last year and it was like playing in a world where god had barfed candy everywhere. Noped the fuck out back to Exfilzone.

You mean having Star Wars announcements and lame concerts inside of a free to play game aimed at kids isn’t a viable business model?!?

IMO Fortnite is the current COD/Halo. The people that grew up with the game now have to deal with real-worl responsibilities and don’t have 100s of hours of free time or daddy’s credit card to continue playing at the level they enjoyed. Most of us a restricted to a few hours every even, if we’re lucky. As the generations shift, Fortnite will become „the game that dad plays“ and the new shiny thing will takes it’s place. Same toxic model, same gameplay loop, just *not* something that existed years before the intended audience were even born.
