I tried to like this show, but they make all the cadets, who all look to be in their 20s, act like they are 5, tantrums included. It’s like the show was originally meant to have the cadets actually be kids, but the producers changed their minds and made them adults, but didn’t care enough to change their minds writing to reflect that.

I found it to be an odd show

Some fans will get huffy and angry at others for not giving these immature characters a chance to grow… but honestly, some people go to _Star Trek_ to watch people who are already seasoned professionals. It’s the same reason a show set in the franchise that focused on Han Solo/_Firefly_-style space rogues might be an odd fit. It’s the same reason many rejected a movie centered on Section 31.
Just because something is part of the setting doesn’t mean it should be the object of focus.
(Anyway, it wasn’t just the students who acted immature. The Captain should’ve sat in her chair like a normal person.)

Thank the Gods. Star Trek: Academy is the silver medal for worst shows. The gold medal goes to Star Wars: The Acolyte. Bless that both or these trash shows are gone.

Could be worse, at least the writers have a definitive end so they can wrap stories up instead of leave anyone who’s a fan hanging with hope the show comes back…..

I watched the first season to give it a chance.
I’m glad it’s ending.
Hopefully Strange New Worlds finishes strong, it’s been the only good live action trek.

People celebrating this in the comments are missing the point. This is 100% Ellison destroying Paramount, AND Trek. It’s nothing to do with the quality or lack thereof in SFA. So for anyone who wanted milquetoast bullshit at best and „the Terran empire was good, actually“ at worst in their next Star Trek project, congrats to you.

Can’t argue with the bad reviews now, can you?

Like it or hate it, I will never understand why people get excited for a shows cancellation that they dislike. Let people watch what they want, and leave the hate behind you. Personally, I’ve talked to plenty of people who liked the show, and I count myself among them. Sure, it has lots of problems, but then again, many good and bad shows have lots of problems. If a show finds an audience, why not just let that audience enjoy it? Why relish in its cancellation? Personally, I have better things to do with my free time than get excited about a show I dislike getting cancelled.

I haven’t seen the show. But the concept is interesting and could be a long multi-season series. The problem is you’ve got people who fundamentally don’t understand Star Trek working on these projects.

I could not watch it. It’s not a part of the 3 streaming channels I already have, so lame.

It had some moments I liked, but watching my wife light up at it is what I enjoyed the most.

Good, it sucked.
If you want to keep a great IP alive, stop trying to change it. It was a success because of what it was.

It’s getting a second season?

I was open to the idea at first. A seasoned crew of instructors that are charged with the extremely important task of training the next generation of Star Fleet officers before they are sent into space. It’s a cool idea to watch the instructors and the cadets grow and this comes as someone who didn’t loathe the Wesley Crusher episodes of TNG. There is something there with this concept honestly.
But then they decided to make it this edgy degrassi like garbage with cringe writing and characters. I made it two episodes in and just couldn’t be bothered to watch. Good riddance. Hopefully this is the last nail in the coffin for Kurtzman.

Half a few month ago I was voted down massively cause i told the financial reasons:
„So its clear there won’t be any new series in particular after the takeover by Skydance and permanently loss making of all productions of the New Trek Era.
The removal of Discovery, Lower Decks and Prodigy were clear signals to the shareholders to hold out until they could get rid of those responsible without suffering further losses.
At least now all rights for TV and cinema are finally under one roof, which can only do the franchise good overall.
I also bet Academy will be cancelled after the first or second season at the latest, as it is Paramount’s last legacy. The ongoing contracts and production simply could not be stopped before without loss.
But Ellison has already announced that the future of Star Trek is under him in the cinema only and that he sees the continuation of the Into Darkness era, which was already co-produced by Skydance or a realignment in the form of a full reboot of the franchise as the only future.
And slowly I think it can only get better or would benefit the franchise more than the current irritations.
After all, Skydance is known as a producer of Apple’s top content such as Foundation, Amazon’s The Expanse, or old classics such as Babylon 5, Dr. Who, Battlestar Galactica, or Stargate SG1 and Atlantis and even the x files.“

I think it was ok. I’m middle aged now, I can accept I’m not the target audience. It’s not a great fit for the IP, but it was ok.
I miss Lower Decks. I hope they will keep daring.

I’m a life long, middle aged Trek fan. I’ve seen all the shows. I’ve rewatched TNG and DS9 more times than I can count.
I really, really liked Academy. It was a great blend of old ethos and new style. I’m sad to see it go.

Can’t it end with season 1? Don’t they shelve stuff and take tax write offs all the time? Why can’t they do that with crap like this?
