      That’s great.

Anything for those of us working full time?
      Where’s my fuel allowance?

We need an Energy Credit, give us middle income earners something back.

I wonder how they are getting on with that investigation into the heating oil companies gouging customers… I guess that’s out of the news now long enough that it has just become part of life now.

And an extra 25 million to the greyhounds , and another 130 million to Ukraine /s

    4. >Canney said the Government is trying to put safeguards in place to avoid any prospect of fuel rationing. “We would hope that it won’t happen, that it won’t end up like that,” he told RTÉ’s The Week in Politics.

      Brace yourselves.

How about a call to employers to increase working from home numbers rather than this bullshit of driving into an office to sit on a teams call.

Scumbags. They should be shaking the petrol tree harder and giving everyone free petrol

    7. Is that double fuel allowance going to be back dated? Because it ends next week.

    8. Give everyone free solar panels and make companies let us work from home 5 days a week

      I’m half joking

    9. The speed and willingness of the Government to within weeks provide substantial tax relief on fuel, increases in fuel allowances, and rebates to industry underscore a serious double standards when it comes to the housing, and in particular rental market, where prices have doubled and show no possible sign of cooling down.

    10. “The knock-on effects of the conflict, and how vulnerable Ireland is to foreign wars, means a new taskforce is now focusing on how to fast-track renewable energy projects to make Ireland more self-sufficient.”

But but but….. all our energy providers claim all our electricity comes from 100% renewable sources

Meanwhile in Spain, the government has cut excise on fuel saving everyone 30c per litre and told the public that it will last as long as it needs to

The only that will stop the increase in fuel costs is a decrease in usage proportional. Until it’s too expensive for 20% of users the price will keep going up. Giving money to a select few to offset this will only increase that final price.

Government: Announce surplus in the budget. Also government doesn’t do a single helpful thing for average people. Also government: Government ‘cannot shield people from the full impact of the war’, Coalition source says

As usual, FFG did nothing and they are out of ideas and say „don’t expect everything from the government“

      wankers

Great. Now how about focusing on improving public transport, pushing employers to make WFH an option when it is possible, and making some actual moves towards a 4 day work week. Even one of these would make a huge impact in reducing our dependency on fuel, and maw our lives better.

    15. How’s about 0% VAT on electric cars. Reductions at the pump for electric vehicles recharging rather than the ridiculous prices at present. That would reduce our over reliance on fossil fuels.

The as others have mentioned, stop blocking wind and solar farms. Make renewable energy more attractive.

    16. Is it hard to regulate the cost per barrel to a maximum % increase at the pumps?

Not saying anything specific to filling stations, but if the government cut taxes on fuel, how do they/we know the consumer is seeing the entirety of the cut?

There’s no system for dealing with an energy shock that is totally equitable or that makes everyone happy.

Targeting money via welfare pisses off people at work, but giving out universal energy credits is so untargeted you are (through your taxes) giving 2x money to people who own 2+ homes, for example.

Even in the current system – if they drop excise duty on fuel, the guy driving a big f-off luxury SUV will get more benefit than someone with a sensible little runaround.

There isn’t a package of measures that will make everyone happy, this one looks… ok? Hopefully not too big and hopefully will help around the margins. But the Dept of Finance is correct to say, we will all suffer because of this war. Government can’t protect us from everything.

The ultimate solution to energy shocks is energy independence and moving away from carbon energy sources. Precisely the thing this government has been long fingering since it got elected.

So if you’re using home heating oil it’s what.. continue to pay literally double the price. Cheers!

What about the average working cunt paying taxes.

      Shafted as usual

Nice to see the scotes on the dole getting extra for it too

    21. The government may not be able to shield us from the full impact of war but they can shield us from the majority of it. After all, 60% of the price at the pump is tax.

They can also do it in perpetuity merely by forgoing this new windfall tax. It would have little to no impact on the budget

    22. „We need to fast-track energy independence“ bleats the party that’s dragged its heels on wind, wave, solar, and nuclear power at every possible juncture for literally decades. Twats.

    23. The lack of any help for the ordinary person is on purpose. High prices are a “natural” way of getting people to cut back as supplies across the EU are running dangerously low. It sucks but I fear it’s going to get worse before it gets better.

Wouldn’t be surprised if in the next month there is some sort of rationing.

    24. What will this mean for people who have already received the Fuel Allowance in the one or two lump sum payments.

    25. Dangerous_Figure_465 on

Need a mass protest. Its tge only thing this government reslond to.
