An ex former blah blah seeking his 5 minutes of fame.
Let them keep their nukes just cut IMF funding.
They will eat rocks or give up nukes
Samson option et all
Isn’t the Trump administration in relatively good terms with Pakistan – especially as compared to India?
Iranians setting a bad example for everyone.
You hit me, I’ll hit him.
Round Robin warfare.
I mean the guy himself says that he’s talking about the absolute worst-case scenario and calls it “one of the impossibilities” so idk if we really need to be giving this so much importance. I don’t think there’s been any recent indications that the U.S. views Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal negatively, especially since it can act as a nice counterweight to India for the U.S. to leverage if the need arises
I would like to apologise for my poor english.
Submission statement: While the conflict in the middle east has been going on, tensions everywhere remain high. Amidst this a wild comment from a former pakistani envoy describing what their strategy would be in hypothetical worst case scenario(being in similar situation to iran) which he himself thought was hard to be in, as they are capable of defending themselves.
As per him if U.S. does try to take/disarm them of nukes they would, without hesitation strike india. He also said that “Whatever happens afterward would be dealt with later and we should not hold back either,” implying that they would not care about such a consequences.
This seems to be a consequence of ongoing ƙ war. As world has learned that they necessarily do not need to defend themselves to ‚win‘ against america. It is enough to make the consequences of attacking them so high that no one tries to do so and further solidifies the idea that Nukes are the only guarantee a country has that can ensure the countries survival. I do agree that nukes are best way to make sure nation survives but
My own take: i tried to keep above statement as unbiased as possible but here are my personal thoughts. A former envoy should keep in mind that they shouldn’t suggest such things in official setting even as hypothetical scenario. Also while nukes currently gurantee survival it also risks MAD activating if such irrational people take charge/are in high position within nation. My own views are likely biased since i am indian and honestly find this a bit distasteful even if they aren’t gonna do it.
Another thing to note is every nation might now try to find a way that would make war infeasible with them rather than end goal being them winning the war. Especially in a scenario when they are fighting a military stronger than theirs. This could but not necessarily would result in them trying to develop nukes depending on their current cards(their geography, their economic role in world etc.)
Here are the key Highlights of the Article summarised by gemini:
The „India as an Option“ Claim: Basit suggests that in an extreme geopolitical scenario—specifically if Pakistan were to be targeted or attacked by the United States or Israel—India could unexpectedly become Pakistan’s only viable diplomatic or strategic „option“ for survival or de-escalation.
Shifting Global Alliances: The former envoy points to the changing nature of international relations, noting that Pakistan’s traditional allies (such as the US) have pivoted toward India. He argues that Pakistan must recognize the reality of India’s growing global influence.
Critique of Current Policy: Basit’s remarks serve as a critique of Pakistan’s current foreign policy, which he suggests has left the country vulnerable and without „all-weather“ support in the face of Western pressure.
Nuclear Context: The comments are framed against the backdrop of concerns regarding Pakistan’s nuclear program and how it is viewed by the West and Israel. Basit posits that if these powers were to move against Pakistan’s strategic assets, the regional dynamics would shift so drastically that a „modus vivendi“ (an arrangement between conflicting parties) with India might be the only way to prevent total collapse.
Call for Realism: He emphasizes that Pakistan needs to move away from „wishful thinking“ and adopt a more pragmatic approach toward India, acknowledging that the two neighbors are inextricably linked by geography and shared regional threats.
Seeing as the US and Pakistan are ostensibly allies and the US constantly props them up via the IMF, why would the US target Pakistan’s nukes?
This crap is almost certainly intended for domestic consumption in Pakistan and India only.
Hit me one more time
These type of statements are similar to what Iran said about bombing and destroying USA and Israel making both nations take them seriously. It only makes Pakistan look more radical. So okay, let’s say he now made sure Trump can’t bomb nuclear weapons facilities in Pakistan.
But now the White House is more keen on spending their money on making life difficult for Pakistan. Sabotage missions can be hacking government research facilities, giving money to groups that go against the current regime in Pakistan meaning more upheaval and more protests, give offensive weapons to India to make sure Pakistan is contained, side with India in UN when it comes to national borders and other issues. And when CIA asks for funding for anything Pakistan related suddenly there is a free cash flow.
Sometimes you think these statements protect you yet they only make you look more radical. If you plan to bomb civilian cities unrelated to USA to punish USA that’s an awful look.
Also, claiming Israel will want to bomb Pakistan is quite deluded right now. Why would they make a totally new enemy? There are no Jews in Pakistan as they are not welcome there. There is no conflict here and no worry about Pakistan.
