Ukraine has said that it is ready to actively cooperate with India in the case of the arrest of six citizens, who had infiltrated from Myanmar via the Northeast and were apprehended at two domestic airports in the country. In a statement, the Embassy of Ukraine, however, flagged reports of Russian tip-off, expressing „serious concern“ regarding the possibility of an „orchestrated and politically motivated nature“ of the matter.
„In this regard, Ukraine emphasizes the necessity of ensuring objectivity, transparency, and impartiality in the investigation of this case.
In this context, we express our principled readiness for active cooperation between the competent authorities of Ukraine and their Indian counterparts, in particular on the basis of the existing bilateral Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters, which provides for the broadest possible measures of mutual legal assistance and interaction through the central authorities of the parties,“ the Embassy of Ukraine’s statement read.

Ukraine moved from `demanding their release‘ to `ready to cooperate‘.
Significantly, the US, which usually takes a more aggressive position if any of its nationals are arrested, has been silent when a US mercenary was arrested with the Ukrainians.
The charge was not just that the Ukrainians (and the American) were in a part of India, that required special permission for foreigners to visit – as Ukraine claimed, but that they illegally imported drones for military purposes, crossed the border illegally into Myanmar and trained insurgent groups – that operate both in Myanmar and India to operate drones for what could be terrorist attacks.
For Ukraine to suggest – as they have in press statements, that their nationals were in that particular part of India because borders are not properly demarcated, is incorrect and avoids the real issue. I have travelled to restricted areas in India – there is typically one road into that area that legit visitors take and documents are checked at that check post – even for Indian
nationals. There is a more stringent check when crossing an International border.
