A number of the issues here:
>Tinder plans to let machine vision algorithms loose on your camera roll. Instead of building a profile on their own, AI will scan users’ locally-stored photos—everything from gym selfies to pictures of their family, sensitive documents and dick pics—to help construct profiles by determining what users’ interests and values are.

>Dating apps are the go-to way for people to connect romantically in the modern dating world. As AI has risen in popularity thanks to services like ChatGPT, however, users are suffering the consequences of problems like bots and AI-generated messages infiltrating dating apps. For some people, the experience is less authentic than ever as people offload get-to-know-you conversations to artificial intelligence.

>The feature is still being tested, with early access only available in Australia beginning this month. Although Tinder says it attempts to filter out explicit images, users may still be concerned with Tinder’s AI scanning their entire camera roll. “It’s up to you to figure out what you’re comfortable sharing back with Tinder,” Tinder Head of Product Mark Kantor told 404 Media. Still, users can’t pick individual photos they want analyzed or ignored. Tinder’s safeguards are meant to filter out explicit images or text, and to blur faces before insights are processed.

>Tinder claims its AI is looking for themes and interests, like pets, activities, or food, as well as photos that are well-lit or well-framed. In theory, this will help users decide the best way to present themselves online. “There is some art to it,” Kantor said. “It’s not just the science.” (It’s unclear what happens if your camera roll is full of bad photos.)

>If the camera roll is a window into the modern soul, it is also a goldmine of personal information. Depending on what someone photographs, their camera roll could include everything from photos of sensitive documents, like banking or medical info, to nudes. It’s a potential security nightmare, especially when people are sharing intimate details about themselves or their dating lives. Security failures on dating apps like Tea put users in danger: multiple breaches exposed personal information, including photos, driver’s license information, and direct messages, before it was finally yanked from the App Store. Tinder has had its own privacy and security issues. Last year, we revealed the dating app was one of thousands co-opted to mine location data. In January, hackers claimed to have stolen internal data from Match Group, which owns Tinder.
At this point, it’s hard to imagine scenarios where this kind of ‚innovation‘ won’t go horribly wrong. Unfortunately, there are likely enough people who are unaware of the problems with this kind of system who will go along with it that it might succeed for a while.
You know, I think I’d rather die single and alone, thanks.
Wow now i dont even have to think about who i actually want as partner anymore, the god algorithm already figured it out. What a brave new world we live in /s
Oh boy im sure they need that data and it has very little to do about you.
I really DGAF what Tinder does since I’m happily married and have never opened a dating app. But you have to be a very, very stupid person/company to propose something like this. Are they totally blind to the backlash against AI and invasion of privacy?

Fuck that. I take a lot of photos of boats for work but I hate boats
Yeah because I have a ton of pictures of my kids, it’s going to decide I’m into……kids.
Who the fuck thought this was a good idea?

Leaving it up to AI who we should date – what a Brave New World.
Joins Tinder to find hot single women. Camera roll is just dick pics.
Oh another reason to never install tinder again
I’ll choose single life. I did marriage once. Can’t imagine dating in these times. I’ve got to come with a checklist to make sure they’re sane.
They’re gonna scan my camera roll and assess that I’m into my last situationship
Fucking stupid
Good thing these halves have a good track record for not being hacked for valuable information!
This sounds like a really fucking bad idea.
You can’t convince me that they are doing this so that can determine what you’re into. These apps make money from people staying on these apps and not matching with their ideal partners. Every single successful relationship from these apps are two users gone, one of which (usually male) is a paid user.
If you can’t disable that, lose Tinder.
NEVER give an app full access.
I hope that the app will recognize that I’m just into taking pictures of my own dick, but have no particular interest in dicks in general.
Jesus Christ the world is going to shit.
Its going to think i am into cats…….just cats.
Data which they will sell to anyone who is interested.
This is the equivalent of Costco breaking into my house and rummaging through my fridge to figure out what foods I buy to sell to me.
letting a dating app scan my camera roll is an insane privacy trade for slightly better profile pics. that folder has way too much collateral damage in it.
Why would anyone ever agree to let this or any other app scan their camera roll. Unbelievable invasion of privacy
Well that sounds like a dumb idea.
AI needs to die, it’s useless.
