Makes sense… 2/3rds of all humans today are in Asia and SE Asia

Some crazy person hopped on a Polynesian boat and made the round trip from Easter Island to Chile, proving that it was technically possible for Polynesians to reach Chile using their technology.
Unfortunately, we haven’t found any archaeological evidence yet, partly because the shore of the glacial sea is now several dozen meters underwater. It still remains to be explained how it is possible that the first human settlements in North and South America are nearly contemporary—too close in time to have been reached on foot.

So the theory is people from Oceania just looked at the Pacific and said „let’s see what’s over there“ and ended up in South America. Meanwhile the Bering Strait theory has people walking through ice for centuries. Both are valid but one involves more boats and vibes

Some pre-inca cultures in Peru had legends of people coming from the sea. Naylamp in particular is the most known, coming from the sea, bringing people, civilisation and starting a kingdom in northern Peru.

The Polynesians did cross to the Americas and back, but that was after they were settled from Asia, and before they were known as the Americas

If they made it to Easter Island it’s not unimaginable they could’ve made it the rest of the way.

This video explains the current thoughts. There is evidence of a single group reaching the Americas a single time, and getting back, but humans were already there.

I actually remember watching a video on YouTube about how Polynesians may have reached South America based on I think potatoes and shells found, and partially by mythology. One scientist even tried to sail to South America the same way Polynesians would have. Very interesting topic
