Is there any reason where a majority government has been a good thing?

I can’t read the article, but I am going to confidently assume the politics of the writer of this piece

The best thing for Canada is to flip flop from Liberal to Conservative. Being to long one way hurts the Country.

I don’t always agree with Andrew Coyne, but when I do, it’s because he supports proportional representation.

Fat chance that will happen if Carney decided to go for an election now. Human karma vacuum Pierre Polievre has no policy positions that would appeal to a majority of Canadians, or even a sizable minority at this point. The Conservatives did themselves no favours in deciding to keep that albatross as their leader.

Yes an inability to make a decision whether one way or another is always the best thing for a company or country or anything in anyone’s life. Limbo. I don’t care who wins as long as it’s a majority.

I prefer minority governments but I’m not sure managing a crisis is one of its advantages, particularly one that would require quick and decisive action.

Carney got the reciprocal tariffs passed in his first week with bipartisan support. He hasn’t even used them. I agree minorities are the way to go especially when LPC are so openly corrupt.

A functioning government is best suited to manage Canada in a crisis.

Yeah when I’m in crisis what I love is deliberation and the government having limited power. Crisis’s are truly the ultimate example of when minority governments are good. Clearly we need majority governments to handle things when things are boring and stable.
What is this daft take?

Poilievre claims to be but his past actions are complete opposite… he just says what ever he thinks people wants to hear

This is such a weird take I don’t understand why it’s being pushed. Didn’t we just have a minority government everyone hated – during a crisis no less?

What if Majority governments were actually Minority enough that those who were pissed about it were justified?
That’s the premise of the article, and it’s well reasoned.

Naw I’m good with a competent majority government and not hearing from PP for a bit.

The best way to prevent Poilievre from being prime minister is for Carney to stay as a minority government. If they get a majority, he will become more popular again.

I’m generally happy having a minority government. I’m not with the current Liberal and Conservative leaders.

A minority is fine when all sides agree a solution has to be reached and can work to find a compromise.
But when multiple parties only want to use the latest crisis to score points or force an election, then nobody’s actually doing anything.
It’s just becomes a group of people arguing endlessly.
I honestly think that all mps should be bared from running for reelection if they were an mp when an election was forced.
They basically just failed at their job, to govern the country. Why should the be eligible to get that job back?
If any employee or CEO fucked up so bad the company had the completely shut down and reorganize, would they really put the same people back in the same role?

With Carney at the helm of the ruling Party, this is the first time since Chrétien that I actually feel comfortable with a *majority* government if that ever happens!
I’m satisfied with the measured decisions the Party has made so far– it’s NOT easy dealing with an orange tyrant– but I like the stance taken by the Federal government: a major reduction in immigration in 2025, 20+ trade deals that are in various stages of progress, and a vision of Canada that is less dependent on shots being called by the US. My values are aligned with what the PM has stated so far at Davos. I’m also relieved that Canada is not participating in the war in Iran. Chrétien would agree!
We also need more progress to appease the pro-Separtist whinies in Alberta and shut down the paid American influence infiltrating our media that’s only serving to divide us. I don’t think Poilievre speaks for the majority of Canadians as Party Leader. I’m very suspicious of the way they chose him as Party Leader. Only 2500 electors?? In person, by invite only? C’mon. It’s the oil companies that chose Poilievre to do *their* bidding again!! What happened to allowing Conservative members across Canada to vote for their Party leader?? That vote was an organized SCAM designed for a specific lobbying group to choose *their* first choice- one that would serve Canadian oil execs, not Conservative Canadians across Canada.
In the meantime, thank gawd we actually have a Party Leader (who is smarter, articulate, more strategic, and more knowledgeable) than any Leader before him. I can’t even imagine how HORRIBLE Poilievre would have been on the world stage. He had German scientists LAUGH at him last week. No thanks! We don’t need Poilievre’s messy input.
Let’s face it. A lot of our strength has come from Canadians themselves who are steadfast in the US boycotts and spending their dollars in Canada locally or elsewhere. We’ll get through this. Austerity measures are imminent, I know. But we have smart Canucks who will create a shareconomy of services with each other if we have to in order to get by in a crisis. We’re resourceful; we’ve got grit. We’ve gotten through World Wars and other recessions. We can do it again. 💪🏻 🇨🇦

Liberal Majority = Carney who seems intelligent and competent so far having power to get things done.
Liberal Minority = Carney trying to get things done and PP and the Cons stalling everything for the sake of „Team Red vs Team Blue“ American style politics.
The majority option sounds WAY better on paper. Conservatives should consider getting a leader who doesn’t have orange lips.
