    1. Ford is trying to jump on all the distractions from his phone records I see.

It’s not like he doesn’t understand that ‚reasonable force‘ as part of the law.

Why is the premier of the biggest province calling on someone to use excessive force?

Ford does realize that is a crime?

And if the person shot him a few more times, they would be charged with assault with a weapon or murder. The person acted appropriately in self-defence. They shot the person once to injury them. If the intruders fled and were not longer a threat once a shot was fired, any subsequent (edit: round of) shots would no longer be self-defence. You can agree or disagree with this, but those are the laws that currently exist as I understand them. Doug Ford is encouraging people to take justice into their own hands.

Nah. He should’ve fired enough times to get them to flee or stop. The video footage showed that the former was achieved, so good on the homeowner for acting appropriately within the situation. Hats off to the homeowner and YRP for not throwing down charges on them given the context. Big Ls to DoFo for advocating for cowboy level BS.

Who does that quote remind you of?!

I’m not equating him with Trump. But that’s a reckless thing for any elected official to be saying. It’s crass and irresponsible.

    6. I feel like it’s not great that the Premier is encouraging lawless behaviour, even if it’s in response to more lawless behaviour

I’ll never understand the unlimited empathy for home intruders. These weren’t children playing a game, these were clearly adults with ill intent. The world would be significantly better off without them in it. The law is an ass.

I’m glad the guy got off and I think self defense in a break and enter needs to be allowed, but that doesn’t mean I think you should mag-dump on the guy just because you can

Fuck off Doug. You still haven’t said jack about Bill C21 a la Wab Kinew, so everyone but your thickheaded supporters know that you don’t give a shit about licensed firearm owners the same way you don’t give a shit about any of your constituents.

    10. The doorbell camera footage shows at least one of the alleged home invaders holding a pistol in their hand, so that‘ deadly force, and shooting back is a reasonable amount of force. I also didn’t see any sign of the homeowner shooting after they left through the front door, so that also keeps it reasonable. No charges being levied makes sense.

So of course Ford wants to take this beyond the realm of reasonable.

      > „Congratulations for shooting this guy — should have shot him a couple more times as far as I’m concerned,“ Ford said

If the homeowners had done what Ford suggested, it’s more likely that charges would have been laid, as the actions would have seemed less reasonable. The courts might have agreed that it was reasonable, but it would have gone to the courts.

Self protection has limits, because in Canada, we don’t consider the death penalty to be reasonable, especially not for theft. Or at least we used to, and I find it depressing that appears to be changing.

      > , the judges always want to protect the Charter rights — how about the charter of rights of the people,

Well, yes, that’s their job. And the people means everyone, not just the people Ford considered worthy. Once we go down that road, it’s very hard to go back, as fewer and fewer people find themselves on the right side of the worth/unworthy line.

    11. How long until the opposition take the bait and go on record defending the rights of home intruders?

Ford’s just so good at this kind of stuff. Saying something provocative that will turn some people off, because he knows the opposition will respond with something that will turn even more people off.

      > Ontario Premier Doug Ford congratulated a homeowner who shot and injured an alleged home invader in Vaughan, Ont., this week, saying intruders „need to be shot.“
      >
      > „Congratulations for shooting this guy — should have shot him a couple more times as far as I’m concerned,“

„Congratulations on shooting someone, too bad you didn’t murder him.“ is a fucking *insane* thing for a politician to say, let alone the guy who has been *responsible for the province for the last eight years*.

We’ve gotten way too used to Ford being able to aw shucks his way in and out of things. This should be a huge scandal, but instead it will barely even register.

Edit: And I’m sure it has nothing to do with this kind of thing: „[Critics say Ford is ‘flooding the zone’ to distract from transparency controversy](https://globalnews.ca/news/11735233/doug-ford-cellphone-flood-zone-claim/)“

    13. There’s no better time to make lots of noise about being tough on crime than when you’re under investigation yourself and frantically trying to make it illegal to collect evidence on you.
