This map shows up so often with the same poor translations.
I always look directly to Yunnan to see if they finally changed it to „South of the Clouds“ instead of cloud south and it’s still the same terrible translations

Shouldn’t Hainan be South of the sea instead of Southern Sea? That would be Nanhai.

I always wondered if the Chinese found their province names… boring? In the Western Workl at least, the names are based on proper nouns, like „Land of the Burgundians“ or „New <European Place or person>“ for the New World and Australia.
But in Chinese, the provinces seem mostly descriptions in regard to simple geographic features and cardinal directions. Its like if the US named Louisiana „River South,“ Missisippi „River East,,“ Missouri „Two Rivers,“ and Minnesota „River North.“ Not very inspiring or poetic — more simply mechanistic.

I guess Sichuan should be translated to Four Mountains than Four Rivers?

You can’t just put it in Google translate and call it a direct translation lol

No horizon forbidden west?

To the northeast, the „lucky forest“ is not the original meaning, 吉林 Jílin is a transliteration of the Manchurian name Girin ula, meaning riverside.

yeah I’m not sure if the translation for Inner Mongolia is correct ^(/s)
I love that River West is both south *and* east of River South 😂

其次你这个版图是啥呀😂🤣藏南和阿克塞钦有,香港和澳门有,台湾没?是到底是实际控制领土还是主张领土?
你是中国人还是华裔?台湾怎么不见了,真怪
