I’m guessing that the Soviet, US and UK reluctance to allow the annexation of western parts of Germany to The Netherlands and Belgium, along with this proposed annexation, was a desire to avoid a Versailles Treaty 2.0, given that 1.0 broke the German economy leading (in part) to the rise of fascism?

Partisans, which liberated Aosta and were fighting Italian army troops, allied together to prevent French invasion of Aosta valley because they would annex it.
Resisted for days until the americans arrived, they found fascists and partisans fighting together
