I don’t think this is a great look for the LPC or our democracy. It makes them look power hungry. Just because our system allows for it doesn’t mean it serves the best interests of our democracy. It serves the best interests of our politicians for sure.
It’s been sad and scary watching us turn into a one party system. Hopefully Lewis and the NDP can at least form opposition, which could happen if the right wing vote is split between the LPC and the CPC

As they should be. The prime minister’s job is to win the confidence of the House. The best way to do that is to convince a majority of members to join your party.

I would love to see the comments on this sub if it were instead a PP-led Conservative minority government inching its way to a majority like this lol.

I’m not surprised. Right now they’re on track for a majority of 172-173 (depending on Terrebonne), which is pretty thin. A lot can happen over the remaining three and a half years before the next fixed election date: retirements, resignations, floors being crossed the other way, illnesses, or even deaths.
Having set the precedent that they accept floor-crossers, I don’t see why they wouldn’t want to solidify that majority by bringing it up to a more comfortable 175 or so.
