    Snippet:

    >All 66 Democrats in the Colorado legislature signed onto a letter Wednesday urging Gov. Jared Polis not to reduce the prison sentence of former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters, a missive that escalates the party’s near-universal disapproval of Polis’ posture toward the case.

    >*“This is about the security and assuredness of our elections,” the letter said. “This is about the future of our democracy, and of free and fair elections in our nation. We ask you to stand with us in safeguarding the future.”*

    >The letter says that clemency is “for those who have taken accountability for their crimes, understand the harm they have created, and made good faith efforts for restitution to victims and self-rehabilitation.”

    >“Ms. Peters has made no efforts toward these ends,” it says.

    >The letter said reducing Peters’ nine-year prison sentence would give election conspiracy theorists “a figurehead to rally around” and send a message that there aren’t consequences for illegal activity around elections.

    >Peters, 70, was convicted in 2024 of orchestrating a security breach of her county’s election system in 2021 in a failed attempt to find evidence of electronic vote manipulation. Her actions were rooted in conspiracies about the 2020 election.

  2. She was literally called like the most unrepentant defendants the court had ever seen by the judge during her trial. Zero reason to give her any leeway.

They absolutely must not let her out early. That sends a terrible message. Also, I saw her sentencing, this bitch was unrepentant

  4. I am as anti-Trump as anyone but locking someone up for a non-violent crime for nine years is just nuts. Americans are just stupid when it comes to locking up people forever, for almost everything, and twice as stupid for thinking it makes them safer. It was a bad crime for sure so give her two years less a day in custody and supervised release for the remainder of her sentence.

In a democracy crimes against elections should be among the harshest penalties. It’s the only way to prevent bad actors from fucking things up. Showing leniency for election meddlers is just going to make things worse.

Colorado resident here, I called the governor’s office to urge that she not be granted clemancy, and I recommend others do the same.

  7. If you live in Colorado I encourage you to call the governor’s office and let him you disgusted by the idea that he would capitulate to a felon, sex offender and war criminal.

  8. It’s giving ‚Susan Collins‘ a strongly worded letter doesn’t determine the fuckin g program of dismantling the United States on behalf of terrorist organization dollars

  9. I wonder if they asked republicans to sign the letter. I guess one of them (Rubinstein) has publicly said he opposes the commutation. The more people behind this thing the better

The fact that he is even considering this justifies impeachment (pending Colorado constitution I do not live there)

  11. If anything, she got off too easy. Trying to fabricate a new tyrannical government is treason.

Everyone involved in the January 6 coup attempt should be in prison for life.

She should have been imprisoned for life, no parole. Fucking with elections should be considered among the most serious of crimes.
