If Singapore is completely surrounded by Muslim majority countries, how did Islam establish itself as a minority for them?

My wife is from the Philippines. The Muslim population is about 5% and is concentrated in the Southern island. Sadly some wanted a separate state of their own. The army came in and some cities looked like Gaza afterwards.

Malaysia surprised me. I thought the number would be much bigger, but I had overestimated their population and the % of Muslims.

Myanmar was higher but they’re still committing the Rohingya genocide

Despite Muslim making up less than 1% of the population, Timor Leste’s first prime minister after independence and one of its resistance leaders is a Muslim Timorese of Arab descent.
