If the public good dictates bail should not be given more to repeat offenders then granting bail in spite isnt serving the public good
Maybe judge Wadden would like to take this repeat offender into his home and care for his mental health? I mean that would only be fair since the guy is facing ONLY 17 charges including four break and enters since December. Small stuff.

People obsessed with bail reform are the same blaming immigration for everything.
It’s the people who have a scapegoat for everything wrong in Canada, but are unable to accept any shred of their responsibility.
Easier to blame crime on criminals, than to admit we’ve been creating crime and poverty for decades by cutting services and constantly giving in to corporate demands.

This is a bullshit metric and Justice Wadden knows it but is lying to the public to justify his own indifference to the law.
Percentage of people is a compound measure reflecting a combination of a portion of sentences (only those under 2 years) compared to pretrial custody. It says nothing on whether the total number is increasing out of portion of population increases, nor does it say anything on whether those bail decisions were appropriate. One way the portion of bail can increase is simply because of judges decreasing sentences.
But instead we have a judge just lying to the public and the CBC blindly regurgitating it as state propagandists.
The only thing going in favor of Wadden is that at least he was brave enough to state his opinions rather than hiding behind publication bans as the court regularly does, to avoid public scrutiny to there terrible decisions.
Proposed bail reform is for exactly situations like this one and for judges like this one.
More bleeding heart judges sitting in their ivory towers and well-off communities that don’t have to live the consequences of their poor judgement

Sorry, Judge Wadden, decisions like yours are absolutely destroying the public’s trust in the justice system. You can tell because you have to spend half of your decision maligning the anticipated public opinion on it.
The man arrested committed 4 B&Es in the last three months.

I wish we could hold judges liable when they let a repeat offender out who then reoffends. Start making them personally and financially liable and watch as repeat offenders sit behind bars where they belong.

Judges are playing a dangerous game with fire. Seriously, after enough anarcho-tyranny, people are just going to lash out violently against those deemed responsible. Idiots – the lot of them!
Canada needs to build more prisons. If the answer to this is truly increasing capacity, then we should expect this bullshit judicial activism to end once we have the space. Still doesn’t account for these judges sentencing foreigners to 6 months minus a day so we don’t automatically deport them, as that would definitely free up space in the future.
Canada’s disastrous population growth this last decade has really fucked every aspect of society, hasn’t it? Has literally ANYONE benefited besides oligarchs, franchisees, colleges and immigration consultants? Seems like our collective quality of life has taken a nose dive to line the pockets of the LPC donor class.
