It’s a pity this few Liberals support restricting open weapons shipments to the fascist regime supporting genocides around the world. Never thought I’d see Canada emerge as an arms dealer for conflicts killing hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians.

It’s only second reading, so it doesn’t really matter, can always let it die in committee.
Though with Conservatives and Bloc also against, 16 Liberals aren’t anywhere near enough to pass it anyways

Military arms export not civilian gun control.
Maybe I’m missing something but I don’t think this arms control legislation makes much sense in the trump era. We need to export to defend our national interests. Meaningful efforts to prevent bad actors from being armed requires global cooperation, leadership from the great powers, and hard power in the form of embargoes, intelligence services to intercept/sabotage shipments, etc.
Whenever you export arms you have to assume they will be used in ways you don’t approve of.

That seems to be the part I can’t really get past either. How do you enforce this without the Americans shrugging their shoulders and doing it anyways? Cutting off arms exports entirely to the States would hurt us economically.
Edit: To be clear I’m not against it. I just don’t know how it would be enforced.

Wonder how they fall with the support of taking away plinker guns from Canadians for the sole purpose of buying votes in Quebec?
