    1. A number of revealing details:

      >Quittr, an app that promises to help men stop watching pornography, leaked intimate data on hundreds of thousands of its users, including their masturbation habits, and lied about its security issues, 404 Media can now reveal.
      >
      >…
      >
      >Some of the data exposed includes the users’ age, how often they masturbate, and how viewing pornography makes them feel. According to the data, many of them are minors.
      >
      >Quittr is operated by Slater and McLaren, members of the so called App Mafia, a group of men in their early 20s who claim to have made millions of dollars on mobile app development. Slater and McLaren were recently the subjects of a long New York Magazine profile which detailed the opulent lifestyle the success of Quittr has afforded them, including driving exotic super cars and living in a Miami mansion. Slater shares videos about his lifestyle on his personal YouTube channel as well.
      >
      >Slater claims Quittr has been downloaded more than 1.5 million times and makes $500,000 a month. But despite these incredible numbers, the developers were somehow unable or unwilling to fix a major security flaw in the app for months.
      >
      >…
      >
      >The researcher said he contacted Slater directly on September 10, 2025 to tell him about the Quittr vulnerability.
      >
      >“It’s my fault fully I should’ve been on top of this, the way you pulled the database was super creative,” Slater told the researcher in a series of WhatsApp messages, which 404 Media reviewed. “So props to that, but again this is serious data and is not good at all. Working on fixing rn! Will be fixed in the next hour.”
      >
      >But Slater and McLaren did not fix the issue for months.
      >
      >…
      >
      >Overall, the researcher said he could access the information of more than 600,000 users of the porn quitting app, 100,000 of which identified as minors.
      >
      >The app also invites users to write confessions about their habits. One of these read: “I just can’t do this man I honestly don’t know what to do know more, such a loser, I need serious help.”
      >
      >“We were like, How can we build an app to make money? Then as I realized how large the issue was, that’s when it became more of a passion project, like, How can we help men actually become men again?” McLaren told New York Magazine.

Reading about some of the shenanigans of the developers of this app, this is just about the expected level of care and consideration to users and their data one might expect.

    2. Well that’s a good way to shame someone to quit their plushie porn habit. I mean you can’t masturbate if you’re 💀

I wonder if this if this the same app that Speaker Johnson and his son use?

hahah, called it the very first time i saw this app. who in their right mind would give away this kind of data to a random 3rd party

Imagine what this world be like if dudes could just jack off to release that pressure and just go about their day grateful for the release and now more focused on what’s important? Sinking into this anti-masturbation bullshit is like making masturbation front and center. I promise the rest of us don’t think about masturbating nearly as much as the people who hate themselves for doing it.

Ok, I am starting to swing back around to feeling sorry for young men today. I was raised with messages that being a toxic fuck was a good thing but boys today…Jesus Christ, the messaging getting to you is so fucking disturbing.

Self-hating narcissism is the perfect cocktail for a pathetic life. Resist; you are neither special nor horrible…unless you *choose* to be (horrible).

They deserve to get hit with the entire law library for betraying trusted interactions. That should be their end.

I’m less surprised that scammers made the app than I am how they found 600K customers.

Everyone masturbates, what shitty home lives led the victims to seek help for being normal?

I understand that overexposure to porn and porn addiction is real. But I believe apps like this do nothing but hurt young men and teach them that watching porn and masturbating is on par with alcoholics trying to avoid a beer.

You’re just going to end up with men beating themselves up over having a wank as if they are a former alcoholic who has had his first drink after a decade

    10. AllISeeAreGems on

A reminder that ‘porn addiction’ isn’t a real thing and that so-called ‘addicts’ are just people who feel guilty about consuming porn in the first place.

Oh hey. I literally heard about this app for the first time last week because they paid a bunch of meme accounts on instagram to promote it. I’m just in it for the cat memes and instead they’re serving up fake headlines about how some app called Quittr was going to buy OnlyFans and delete it for the good of everyone. $500k/month is a lot of money to the individual, but it’s not “Buy out the porn industry” amounts of money.

    12. New app promises to keep you happier, healthier or challenge issues in your life?

      Subscription service?

      Access to all your data?

      What could possibly go wrong.

When willpower alone fails surely paying someone to tell me to do better will work.

    13. Two 20-year-olds making $500K a month off shame, and they couldn’t even encrypt the data. The real addiction here is shipping without a security review.

Is there an app like this but opposite that can learn my habits and curate a list of videos that meet my needs/interests.

Perhaps suggest times to take care of my special needs when it sees I’m often not doing stuff. It could schedule it for me. Maybe it could put it on my outlook calendar so coworkers won’t disturb me.

    15. NEW: A couple of 20-year-old developers make $500,000 a month promising to help men, including minors, to stop watching porn, but exposed their private porn watching habits. When we asked them about it in January, they lied about the huge security flaw. 404 Media first reported about Quittr exposing user data in January, but was unable to name Quittr in because its creators, Alex Slater Connor McLaren, did not fix its security issues despite multiple requests and an offer from an independent researcher to help them fix it.

Naming the app while hackers were still able to easily steal Quittr’s user data would have endangered their privacy and put them at risk of extortion from hackers, which is very common today.

“We were like, How can we build an app to make money? Then as I realized how large the issue was, that’s when it became more of a passion project, like, How can we help men actually become men again?” McLaren told New York Magazine in a recent interview.
