I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again.
I don’t think we should be „defunding“ CBC, but there clearly needs to be some sort of cultural change within it.
You can clearly see the difference in culture between CBC and other public news like PBS.
I remember CBC used to do good for the world, they used to expose Canadian airlines charging exorbitant fees and they did a segment where they compared flights in Canada to Europe and Australia and Canadian airlines were gouging the shit out of us
But that’s gone, CBC is just liberal propaganda now
Wasn’t the reason that this journalist could not be trusted enough to interview these MPs in good faith? From what I’m reading he is way too close to them so the bias would allegedly come from his lack of objectivity?
Sounds like a boogey man for conservatives hell-bent on destroying anything public.
CBC has plenty of areas for improvement regardless, but to defund or destroy it would be suicide
The amount of times I’ve been downvoted on this very sub for saying the CBC was just a mouthpiece for the Liberal government is astounding.
Wish I could say it feels good, but in reality this should scare absolutely everyone.
I believe this. For many years, I’ve been calling the CBC the Unofficial Government-Funded Mouthpiece of the Liberal Party of Canada.
>He claimed David Cochrane’s “Power and Politics” gave him a list of 40-something people he was not allowed to have on his show, “Canada Tonight.”
>Some, he said, were reporters like the Star’s Robert Benzie, the Queen’s Park bureau chief.
This is standard, you don’t bring on reporters from competing outlets when there’s plenty of CBC reporters who can provide comment. CTV and Global do the same to promote their own reporting.
The CBC is too far gone to be reformed. Time to shut it down completely.
If we need to have a national news agency which doesnt rely on private funding build one from the ground up for the modern world we live in. Make it an arms length org from the government, one that does not report to the government or take direction from the government as currently it is done. Have it focus on the news without the need for a spin from the government of the day. Give us the facts and not your opinions.
If I’m reading this right, it sounds less like political bias and more that they wanted those guests on, I assume, their preferred show and not this guys.
I’ve never seen his show, I don’t know if this guy was a good or bad employee. It comes off as more petty company politics than anything. I mean if you don’t like the guy or his show why not cancel it? Or was there a contract in place.
It also might be the CBC trying to seem „balanced“ by not having too much of one party on their platform and.. Those policies tend to never go that well. lol
I voted for liberals and I did notice that they were biased towards liberals and I felt crazy thinking this. I didn’t care since I voted for them but that’s not right
This testimony.
The „It’s all made up anyway“ fiasco.
Their weird article about Peter Mansbridge throwing a bit of shade at him.
Lots of recent exposees about how the CBC has become not just an ideological mouthpiece, but an authoritative bully that is really taking advantage of having been ingrained in our national identity.
It was only 10 years ago that CBC had a show hosted by the late Rex Murphy, someone with whom many Canadians had contentions, but still, the variant viewpoint was refreshing.
Can you imagine someone like Rex hosting a CBC show today?
This is what our tax dollars are funding.
Can’t read because of paywall, but does the article actually look at that list and assess whether these were reasonable or not?
Saying that your bosses gave you a blacklist of sources is one of those things that can be a sign of horrible corruption… or can just be super reasonable.
There’s a massive difference between „anybody right of centre isn’t allowed“ (for example, which is the implication here), and „hey, dont use this anti vaxx kook or this holocaust denier as your sources, because they aren’t remotely reputable / they’ve literally lied on air before“ or „don’t platform our competitors“ (which might feel more realistic)
I don’t see the issue here.
>Flipping through his papers, Dhanraj pointed to group chat transcripts that detailed the internal tension. In one exchange, he claimed he was told: “We can’t chase anyone from the entire party” because the CBC’S “Power and Politics” was already chasing those guests.
It kinda make sense, why would you chase after guests that would appear in another show?
I don’t need to see the same guest in very segment. It’s like why Andrew Coyne never appears on Power and Politics because he is on At Issue.
a reminder for those not in the loop;
Two parents of children killed in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash have recently accused CBC of intentionally twisting the narrative in their interviews in order to make it look like they have forgiven the driver and support his ongoing bid to remain in Canada, even though both have gone on the record claiming they do not.

There’s a pick and choose culture with CBC, period.
> Some, he said, were reporters like the Star’s Robert Benzie, the Queen’s Park bureau chief.
So the only example given by Dhanaraj is a journalist who famously has no political affiliations, and [who has appeared in other CBC programs](https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-100-ottawa-morning/clip/16200826-ontario-report-robert-benzie)?
Clearly, all the hate for Liberals (and their supporters) in this thread is well-earned. /s
I still like Front burner, even though I think the cbc is a bit pathetic at certain things, Jayme Poisson rules
CBC’s lack of criticism of Trump says all you need to know.
Power & Politics spent the last 4 years trying to have Conservative MPs on the show, only to have them refuse every invite because the leader wouldn’t allow it. The first time they had someone on was in the days following the last election when the MPs no longer felt compelled to follow their leader’s directives. Then all of a sudden there were multiple MPs on the show in the ensuing weeks.
I obviously can’t speak to this guy’s allegations and a public broadcaster is not immune from the same fuckwithery that any media company (or any company for that matter) is prone too. I did see that the CBC said he made a number of misleading statements, so I guess that will be sorted out when the HRC makes a decision on his claims.
Man love how all the liberal supporters are here to trash the guy who has receipts showing the CBC has harassed, threatened his job and a NDA (that he brought with him to parliament) that if signed demands the forfeiture of some of his human rights under the charter.
Classy guys.
Information is coming out so slowly in this event that I can’t even understand what the issue is. Does someone have a summary or anything about what happened?
The cbc and the rcmp don’t bite the hand that feeds them. They’ll pretend to nibble but it’s just a show
Reminder that during SNC Lavelin, the Liberal Party was boasting internally about how they could control the media to ensure favourable coverage if JWR did what the party wanted.
„Disgruntled and radicalized former employee says negative shit about the company that fired him.“
A tale as old as time.
The CBC has always been and will always be liberal media.
Example:
“His allegations of political bias, particularly that he was restricted from selecting certain guests from the Conservative Party”
CBC should be defunded. Let them sell sponsorships and canvas tote bags.
