You have lots of money? Here’s more money in interest!

You dont have any money? Were going to have to charge for being poor.

It was ridiculous that it previously wasn’t regulated at all. Upwards of $45 for an NSF fee, for being $0.01 over? That was legalized robbery.

    3. It’s great that it will be capped but thinking of the NSF fees I’ve paid in my life, none was over $10. No doubt that higher examples existed but I’d wager $10 and under is probably a not uncommon standard. So yeah, glad we have it on the books but I’d like to see that tightened drastically, preferably eliminated.

It’s just a bank taking lunch money from someone who doesn’t have lunch money.

Edit: You’re all absolutely blowing my mind and I genuinely had no idea. I’d heard of someone now and then getting hit with a wild ~$50 fee. Ive apparently been making good banking decisions over the years and didn’t even realize.

So yeah, $10 cap is great. Let’s make that $0 in short order.

When I was younger and stupidly used money mart they were slapping my account with $50 nsf fees. I was in a cad cycle of trying to pay the debt but getting smacked with nsf fees

    5. So there’s endless discourse about the profits of grocery retailers in Canada, but the real gougers are the big five banks, and yet there’s so little backlash. We gripe about a grocery chain making 3-4% profit on their bottom line, yet these banks make close to 30%! Profit! And there’s an amount of that from just outrageous fees that are almost pure profit. I would love to see more limits on what banks can charge for transaction fees, account fees, etc. because it really is unjustified. They already make so much money just from holding and using our money.

That’s a good change. I haven’t paid fees for a long time, if at all but banks shouldnt be allowed to fine you because you don’t have money.
