Sabanero doesn’t exist in Colombia. The region that is supposed to be it is mostly the Andes passing through the country, or the Amazon rain forest… Not a „sabana“. Llaneros is correct, for the plain lands.

Brit here. I heard somewhere on UK radio a throwaway comment that the „age of the cowboy“ (specifically the north American cowboy) was very brief. I don’t really know what that meant, but as my only exposure to cowboys has been via Hollywood I was intrigued.
Can anyone enlighten me? IS there an accessible online source?

Damn. I thought everywhere in Spanish this word was Vaquero, and in English always cowboy. Very interesting.

Paisa region of Colombia should probably be Arrieros, not quite the same as cowboys but probably close enough and a fairly romanticised image here.
