  1. From the article:

President Trump on Sunday threatened to not sign any bills into law until the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act is approved by the Senate, doubling down on his his push to change voting requirements ahead of the midterm elections.

“I, as President, will not sign other Bills until this is passed, AND NOT THE WATERED DOWN VERSION – GO FOR THE GOLD: MUST SHOW VOTER I.D. & PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP: NO MAIL-IN BALLOTS EXCEPT FOR MILITARY – ILLNESS, DISABILITY…,” the president wrote in his Sunday morning Truth Social post.

The leader has pressed Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) to use a talking filibuster to pass the bill, which was approved by the House in February.

The filibuster would force Democrats to speak continuously on the Senate floor to delay a vote on the bill. But, once they cede the floor, Republicans could circumvent the need for a 60-vote majority and pass the measure with just 51 votes.

Call your reps and senators on 5 calls! He wants to stop signing bills into law? Let him! Shut the whole thing down

Typical republican strategy – refuse to do your job, take the country hostage, throw a tantrum until you get what you want. Blame everyone else for your inability to effectively lead…

This is how Newt Gingrich propelled their party into its stranglehold on the country.

    Fuck the GOP

Fine with me. Let’s see what happens when the Pentagon needs money for the Trump wars.

Good, this government can’t be trusted to pass laws. Let’s just leave it like this for 3 years.

  5. How does this in any way hurt us? In fact, it sounds great.
The only bills he would sign are GOP sponsored ones, which we don’t want signed.
Anything with any kind of Dem sponsorship, even bipartisan, he wouldn’t sign anyway.

Basically he is preventing a Republican congress from fucking up the country even more than they have.

Of course it doesn’t matter because his stance is bullshit. He never holds course or stands firm on anything.

If a president doesn’t sign a bill that is passed by congress within 10 days, and they remain in session, it goes into law. Does he mean he’ll veto any law?

  7. ahumblecardamompod on

He’s been doing this job for years and still doesn’t even know how it actually works. 🙄

Save America Act could just be „I, Donald J Trump, resign the office of the Presidency effective immediately.“

    Doesn’t even need Congress!

the ignorance of Trump is just staggering. Experts within his own party have repeatedly told him in no conditional terms that the Save Act would harm GOP voters/elections than it would the democrats. It’s just the reality on the ground. But Trump doesn’t care. He’s insane and we all need to stop pretending he’s not.

  10. Given most of those bills are fake conservative rightwing idiocy, what is the downside to his threat?

And how quickly does he cave?

  11. Thorandragnar on

Shhh! Don’t tell hem that him not signing doesn’t matter and that they become laws 10 days later.

  12. This is pure bluster. Bills passed by Congress are almost all Republican-led bills today. He can’t just not sign them, as they automatically become law after 11-12 days (10 days on the president’s desk, not including Sundays). He would have to either explicitly veto them, forcing override votes in Congress (failure kills the bill, override bypasses the President, neither good for Trump), or if Congress adjoins (Mike Johnson is good at this) pocket veto them.

Call his bluff, he’s going to need funding soon

  13. The SAVE Trump’s Ass Act should not be signed. Meanwhile let him choose not to sign any other bill. That will just add to the voter outrage over how bad a President he is and help elect Democrats in November.

  14. Concerning the only bills that will be passed will be Republican bills, I’m okay with this.

  15. Wizard_with_a_Pipe on

This actually could save the country! Do NOT PASS the save act ! This is probably the best thing that could happen at this point.

  16. Okay. Deal. All the more reason to not pass the SAVE act. Who knows it could be so easy? 🤷‍♂️🙌

As if any other bill the Reoublicans put forward would be worth signing into law. Fuck off, orange piece of shit.

  18. edelweiss_pirates_no on

Democrats should respond to every Trump announcement with „Hey, Donald. Go fuck yourself. Release the Epstein-Trump files.“

  19. Like a dog with a bone he just won’t let go. His hate for Obama over the Nobel prize and jokes at the WH Correspondents dinner is legendary, his obsession over the 2020 election continues. He’s President for the second time and he’s still complaining. This whole election fraud complaint is a scam. There wasn’t any fraud, it’s all in his mind or an attempt to control elections. The American people can’t vote until they pass the MAGA purity test!

Start a war and grind the wheels of government to a stop. This is definitely the kind if guy that would bankrupt a casino.

  21. Fatt3stAveng3r on

That’s fine. Nothing worth passing will be in the House or Senate til after midterms anyways.

  22. HuTaosTwinTails on

Sounds good. Just never pass the SAVE Act and we can at least prevent some more shitty laws being passed by this pedo.

  23. captaincanada84 on

No great loss as Congress isn’t actually sending him bills to sign

Unless one were in a deep sleep like Rip Van Winkle or living in an isolated part of the world without access to the internet for several years, there is zero valid reason for anyone to have considered voting for TFG in 2024.

I am continuously astonished by the level of idiocy in this country. This loathsome piece of shit did so much damage in such a short time during his first disastrous term. While I get there are a lot of selfish, depraved assholes in this country, there are also way too many complete morons whose actions have put all of us in grave danger.

  25. What a dumbass. Doesn’t anyone in the administration know that if he doesn’t sign a bill within 10 days while Congress is in session the bill becomes law automatically.

  26. ColonelBungle on

I’m fine with that. We’d be better off with a vacant executive branch than this shit show.
